The 2026 Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad will be held on March 10, 2026, at the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics. The Vietnamese delegation includes 22 students, including 2 students from the 2025 IMO team and 20 students with the highest achievements in the national excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
In 2026, the exam will be held simultaneously in 45 countries and territories around the world (including 43 official participating countries and 2 observer countries), an increase of 8 countries compared to 2025.
This is a special milestone for the Vietnamese Mathematical Olympiad movement when our country returned to participate in APMO after 25 years of interruption. At the same time, from 2026, Vietnam will take on the role of the main coordinating country of the exam in the period 2026-2028, equivalent to the role of the host country. The Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics is assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to preside over the APMO exam in Vietnam.
According to regulations, each candidate takes the test in 4 hours with 5 math problems of different difficulty; each problem has a maximum score of 7 points. After the exam ends, the test papers and results of the candidates are sent to the International Organizing Committee for appraisal. Official results on medals and international rankings are announced after completing the grading process and score coordination between participating countries.
