Many expectations for the general textbook series
From the 2026-2027 school year, the Minister of Education and Training decides on a set of textbooks for unified national use. Expressing his anticipation for this change, Nguyen Khanh Nguyen - a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU) - said that using a common set of books will help students across the country have a balanced knowledge base, creating favorable conditions for the learning and development process. The female student hopes that the new book series will not only systematize knowledge but also contribute to helping students develop comprehensively, in line with the innovation orientation of the education sector.
Sharing the same view, Tran Vu Bao Ngoc - a student at Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted (Da Nang) - said that when taking exams between schools or at the national level, candidates will no longer have too much difference in knowledge because they have studied from different sets of books. In addition, donating books to students in difficult circumstances has also become more favorable.
According to the female student, using a set of textbooks together will help the learning process become stable, avoiding confusion because of many different programs. What Ngoc wants most is a new book that is easy to understand, a balanced exercise and has many practical examples for students to understand as much as they learn. The female student also hopes that the content will be updated to suit the actual situation, especially in the Geography subject after many provinces and cities have merged.
Creating synchronization in the education system
Regarding the policy of using a common set of textbooks nationwide from the next school year, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Trang - a teacher at Vinh Loc Secondary School (Tuyen Quang) said that this helps the teaching and learning program to be synchronous, limiting the situation where each locality has a different set of textbooks, leading to differences in knowledge and approach to lessons.
From the perspective of a person directly teaching, Ms. Trang assessed this as a suitable step, bringing many advantages to teachers. Using only one set of textbooks helps simplify the process of building an educational plan, while creating unity in checking and evaluating students between schools and regions.
cross-school professional activities will be more effective when teachers do not have to compare many different sets of books. However, in the early stages, teachers may be confused when having to get used to the new structure and approach of the book, which requires time to adapt" - Ms. Trang expressed.
Setting high expectations for the upcoming book series, Ms. Trang hopes that the new program will reduce the academic content, enhance practical elements and activities related to students' lives. The illustration should be intuitive and approachable; the exercise should be designed in diverse degrees to suit many learners.
Sharing about this issue, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Dung - former Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education - said that when the program is unified, the quality of teaching will be based on a common standard, reducing the "slide" of content between localities, while contributing to saving costs for parents.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Dung, the selection and compilation process must comply with a number of core principles. First of all, there is publicity and transparency in the entire process, followed by the requirement to be frugal, not causing disruption to teachers and students. The book series needs to inherit the achievements of previous generations, while ensuring scientificity and updating, reflecting new knowledge of the times.
This expert especially emphasized the combination of technology and AI, aiming for a learning method that goes hand in hand, in line with Vietnamese practice and contributing to concretizing the goals of the current general education program.
