Don't let students miss the beat to school

A fairly common situation in many localities for many years now is that after the end of the school year, there are still many students who cannot complete the program and have to review to retake the exam.

In many places, this is quite simple because children only need to go to school according to the teacher's schedule. But in remote and deep areas, the story is completely different.

Because in those places, schools are sometimes dozens of kilometers away from home, and the mountains are dangerous, many students take summer vacation with their parents to the fields from early morning to late afternoon. It is not easy to gather them to school to review. So if you just wait for students to come to class, there may be students who will never come. And that means the risk of them missing the opportunity to complete the school year, and then gradually leaving education.

To overcome this situation, recently, teachers of Le Hong Phong Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School (Tra Doc commune, Da Nang) had the initiative to go to their homes to review for students who have to retake the exam.

That is not only a beautiful act of the teachers in a mountainous school, but also suggests a thought-provoking educational philosophy that when students cannot go to school, the school should seek out students.

What is precious is that those trips to students' homes for review do not originate from a mandatory regulation, but from the responsibility and love for the profession of teachers. They accept going further, more hard to exchange for opportunities for students to continue to learn.

And that is also a way to "retain" mountainous students to stay at school as long as possible. Because reality shows that many students in difficult areas have not returned to school after a summer. Geographical distance, economic conditions and livelihood pressure make learning easily disrupted. Just losing contact with the school for a few months, many children may drop out of school forever.

Therefore, each trip of teachers to students' homes is not only to re-teach a math problem or a essay, but also a bridge between the school and the family, between teachers and students. It is a gentle reminder that the path of learning is still waiting for them ahead.

Of course, we cannot see trips to students' homes by teachers like at Le Hong Phong Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School as a long-term solution for education in mountainous areas. Because we cannot put on teachers' shoulders the responsibility of regularly going to each house to compensate for the shortcomings in learning conditions.

To prevent students from being left behind, it is necessary to continue investing in semi-boarding schools, dormitories, transportation, supporting poor students and creating conditions for them to maintain their studies even during the holidays. However, in the end, no matter how complete the policy is, education still always needs people who know how to take another step for students.

Because in the end, what makes the value of the teaching profession is not only the lectures on the podium, but also the silent steps to climb slopes and cross forests to reach students.

Those steps are the most beautiful lesson about dedication, sowing in them the belief that, on the journey to knowledge, no one will be left behind.
