On November 25, the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province said that the recent flood caused severe damage to the education sector. Many schools were deeply flooded, causing damage to facilities and teaching equipment, with total estimated damage of more than 24.4 billion VND. Of which, schools under the Department suffered a loss of nearly 10 billion VND; schools at the commune level suffered a loss of more than 14.4 billion VND.
As of noon on November 24, the whole province still has 34 schools with 19,386 students having to temporarily stay home from school because the school has not provided security after the flood. At the preschool level, there are 9 schools with 4,161 children; primary school level 11 schools with 7,369 students; secondary school level 10 schools with 4,735 students; high school level 4 schools with 3,121 students.
Floods also seriously damaged textbooks and learning tools at educational institutions: preschool level needs support 4,160 sets of tools, primary level 2,265 sets of books, secondary school level 212,728 books and high school level 145,771 books.
Immediately after the water receded, the military, police and agencies and organizations supported schools in cleaning up mud, collecting garbage, fallen trees and disinfecting the campus to prevent the outbreak of the epidemic.
The Gia Lai Department of Education and Training requires educational institutions to continue to coordinate with local authorities to overcome the consequences, clean the environment, and ensure hygiene for schools. At the same time, coordinate with the medical center to deploy disease prevention and control after the storm.
At the same time, the safety level of the project is checked, and teaching is only resumed when it has been confirmed to be qualified. Schools have developed appropriate compensatory teaching plans, psychologically supporting students in severely affected areas, helping them stabilize their studies soon.
