Ho Chi Minh City National University has announced the structure and sample test questions for the 2025 capacity assessment. The test structure has been adjusted compared to last year.
The Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving section is restructured into the Scientific Thinking section, with 30 multiple choice questions. The questions are structured in the direction of providing information, data, facts, experimental planning, and experimental results, thereby requiring candidates to demonstrate their ability to understand and apply information, determine experimental results, and predict laws.
The Language Use (Vietnamese and English) and Mathematics sections have increased the number of questions to 60 and 30 questions, respectively.
Lan Anh, a 12th grade student in District 1, said she was very surprised by the structure of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University's sample exam.
Lan Anh said that the exam is spread across many subjects, so it will be difficult for candidates to get high scores because few candidates will do well in all subjects.
"I'm focusing on studying Math, Physics, and Chemistry. Therefore, I will have difficulty with questions related to History, Geography, etc.," Lan Anh shared.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Quality Assurance, Ho Chi Minh City National University - said that this change is to match the trend of choosing diverse subjects of candidates in the 2018 general education program; ensure fairness and create opportunities to access higher education for all candidates.
Mr. Chinh analyzed that in the 2018 general education program, out of 9 subjects, students can choose 4 subjects, instead of like before, all students studied the same subjects.
"Therefore, the ability assessment test needs to change to accurately assess the ability of candidates, ensuring fairness for all candidates," said Mr. Chinh.
According to Mr. Chinh, previously the Problem Solving section would have questions related to Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, and Geography. However, if this structure is applied in 2025, it will cause difficulties for many candidates.
"From there, the team of experts from the National University decided to adjust the Problem Solving part of the Scientific Thinking component. The problems presented here are not specialized in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography but will be practical problems, problems about science, technology, society, economics and law," he shared.
According to Mr. Chinh, the exam will provide full information, knowledge, formulas, and data for candidates to reason and find solutions. Candidates do not necessarily have to study subjects in depth but can still use their reasoning ability and scientific thinking ability to do the test.
According to Mr. Chinh, the structure and content of the 2025 competency assessment test have many similarities with international standardized tests.
In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will organize 2 capacity assessment exams.
Phase 1 is expected to take place on March 30, 2025 in 25 provinces/cities.
The second round of the exam is expected to take place on June 1, 2025 in 11 provinces/cities.
