In a letter congratulating teachers and students on the new school year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) said that when the opening ceremony was canceled, the school donated 200 million VND to support compatriots through the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
116 students facing difficulties due to storms and floods were also supported by the school with a total amount of 348 million VND. In addition, more than 1 billion VND from sponsoring partners for students on the occasion of the new school year 2024-2025 will continue to be considered and granted by the school to students with excellent academic achievements, policy beneficiaries, and students in difficult circumstances...
Previously, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also announced that it would not hold an opening ceremony to use funds to support people in flood-affected areas.
The reason for this is to share and support the community and people affected by storm number 3 and its circulation.
Accordingly, the school will send the entire cost of organizing the opening ceremony (100 million VND) to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to encourage and support people in the northern provinces to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, according to the general implementation plan of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) also announced the postponement of the opening ceremony and welcoming day for new students for the 2024-2025 school year to show support to the people in the North who are affected by storms and floods.
The school launched a school-wide fundraising campaign to share the hardships of our fellow countrymen. The school accepts cash donations through the bank account number published on the official Facebook page.
Summing up the entire campaign, the amount of money that teachers, students and the School sent to support the people was more than 3.7 billion VND.
Some universities still held opening ceremonies as planned but did not receive congratulatory flowers from agencies, businesses and partners.
Foreign Trade University did not accept flowers at the opening ceremony this year. The school only had one flower basket on stage, a painting with the QR code of the Vietnam Fatherland Front account printed on it.
The school hopes that the congratulations of individuals, organizations, businesses, and partners can be converted into contributions to support movements/funds to help overcome the consequences of natural disasters, floods, as well as individuals/households in difficult circumstances in general.
After the flag-raising ceremony and national anthem, the staff, lecturers and students took a minute to remember the soldiers and people who died due to the impact of storm No. 3.
This year’s opening ceremony at Ton Duc Thang University was also very special as no flowers were received from any units or partners. The school observed a minute of silence to commemorate the people who died as well as to pay tribute to and remember the officers and soldiers who died while performing rescue and recovery duties following the recent storm No. 3.
Before the opening day, the school mobilized units to transfer money to donate flowers to the fund to support compatriots of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City to contribute a part of the cost to overcome the damage caused by the storm, to share and send love to compatriots in the North.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry also sent an open letter to partners, expressing its wish not to receive flowers.
Instead, the school hopes that partners will send the cost of giving flowers to people in flood-hit areas in the North to contribute to the cost of overcoming the damage caused by natural disasters.
In an open letter sent to units and partners, the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) hopes that the 2024 opening ceremony will be an event "not brilliant but full of affection".
Accordingly, the school would like to refuse congratulatory flowers, and at the same time, hopes that units and partners will transfer the cost of giving flowers to the fund of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to share the difficulties with people in flood-affected areas.
