Local authorities propose early high school graduation exam
2025 is the first year that high school students will take the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. According to the announced plan, the high school graduation exam will be held on June 26 and 27, 2025. Candidates will take 4 subjects including: Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology).
Recently, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting an adjustment to the exam schedule for the 2025 high school graduation exam. Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, Ninh Binh also hope that the 2025 high school graduation exam will be pushed about 3 weeks earlier than expected.
Regarding the proposal for the 2025 high school graduation exam 3 weeks earlier than the old schedule, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha - Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training - said that this is a big problem, the ministry will consider before deciding. According to Mr. Ha, preparation for the high school graduation exam is decentralized to the locality. There is currently no official information on the proposals of localities. However, in the general spirit, if they have to be shifted, there will be a plan that will have little impact on the entire system. This is a big problem that will be carefully considered before deciding.
Completely eliminate early admission, convert scores to a common scale
According to the draft University Admission Regulations for 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training has completely eliminated early admission, instead of limiting the quota to 20% as previously announced. All admission methods will take place at the same time, except for direct admission according to the regulations of the ministry.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training requires priority points according to regulations of schools not to exceed 10% of the maximum total admission score. The priority points for the area and subjects will remain the same, with a maximum of 2.75 points and the candidate's score must not exceed the maximum (for example, 30 points if considered on a 30-point scale).
Notably, this year, schools must use the results of all 3 school years for methods related to considering high school academic results, that is, considering all 6 semesters instead of 3 - 5 semesters as before. Schools will also convert scores so that the admission scores and admission scores must be converted to a common, unified scale for each program, major, training group and admission method.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training - shared that this is a technical issue to ensure the rights of candidates. "The development of a point conversion plan is the responsibility of training institutions and the Ministry of Education and Training. Candidates will receive information on public conversion scores before registering for admission" - Mr. Dung said.
Schools are proactive in enrollment plans
Ms. Pham Thi Kim Thu - Deputy Head of Training Department, Thang Long University - informed that this year, the school will basically keep the same admission methods as last year. However, in the admission methods, there are adjustments to increase opportunities for candidates.
"For example, when considering foreign language certificates, the school will add certificates of Korean, Chinese, Japanese... Or the admission combinations will also be carefully calculated to suit the high school graduation exam from 2025, candidates will take 2 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects" - Ms. Thu said.
Dr. Nguyen Phi Long - Head of Training Department, Vietnam Women's Academy - informed that the school is developing a plan to convert to a common entrance exam scale, which will be officially announced after receiving instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training. "For the Vietnam Women's Academy, eliminating early admission or converting scores to a common scale does not affect much" - Mr. Long said.
The University of Commerce has issued an official enrollment plan for 2025. The new point this year is that the school does not consider admission based on academic results for students from specialized schools and key national high schools.
The University of Commerce also offers a formula for calculating admission scores for methods to ensure conversion to a common scale. For example, with the admission method using the ability assessment test scores and thinking assessment scores, the school will give the coefficients Ka, Kb and will announce them after the results of the high school graduation exam.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Head of the Communications and Admissions Department, University of Commerce - said that the school will analyze data from the examining units and the 2025 high school graduation exam score. The results will be compiled, compared and the coefficients will be adjusted appropriately to ensure fairness between candidate groups considering different admission methods.
