Not missing core knowledge
In the context that the Ministry of Education and Training does not issue sample exam questions for the high school graduation exam, the way of reviewing for the English exam must be changed more or less. Instead of waiting for orientation from the sample exam questions, many schools have proactively built a review program that covers all knowledge.
At Galileo High School (Hanoi), the Foreign Language team implements teaching methods closely following the 2018 General Education Program, and expands the content according to topics in textbooks. Vocabulary is not taught separately but is associated with context, helping students understand deeply and apply it flexibly.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Lua - Head of the Foreign Language Department, the school has built a separate document system such as worksheets and learning applications for students to practice regularly. Approaching knowledge in a continuous and diverse direction helps students form language reflexes instead of mechanically memorizing.
With grammar, the principle is not to miss core knowledge. A solid foundation will help students handle problems well, especially in the context that exam questions may change structure or questioning methods.

Practicing questions associated with thinking, avoiding the "trap" of reading comprehension
When the basic knowledge part is completed, 12th grade students enter the stage of generalized exam practice. This is an important time to systematize knowledge from 10th grade to 12th grade, and at the same time practice test-taking skills in time pressure.
According to Ms. Lua, many students still make common mistakes when doing the test, especially in the Reading Comprehension section. With long paragraphs and highly differentiated questions, many students tend to choose answers based on "familiar" words appearing in the test.
Meanwhile, current exam questions tend to assess abilities and understand semantics more deeply. Answers are often designed sophisticatedly, using synonyms or rephrasing ideas. If only relying on "word comparison", students are very likely to lose points.
Therefore, training language thinking, the ability to analyze context and understand the essence of content becomes a key factor. This is also a way to regain points for good and excellent students but is a "trap" for those who study along the beaten path.

Notes when reviewing
According to Ms. Tran Thi Lua, to achieve a score of 9-10 in English, students not only need to grasp basic knowledge but also need to expand and delve deeper. Especially with vocabulary, learning phrases and expanding vocabulary will help increase recognition and flexible use.
In addition, students need to pay attention to fixed phrases and how words are combined in each context. This is an important factor in solving difficult problems.
Teachers also recommend that instead of learning scatteredly, students should have a clear roadmap: consolidate the foundation, practice in question format, then practice integrated questions in real-time conditions. Regular practice will help improve both speed and accuracy when doing the test.
In the context that exam questions are increasingly focused on assessing competence, preparing for the English exam cannot rely on tricks or rote learning. Grasping knowledge, practicing thinking and maintaining practice habits will be the key to helping students confidently conquer the 2026 high school graduation exam.
