Arrange and merge more medical schools

According to Lao Dong, as of November 28, many localities across the country have proposed plans to arrange and merge medical schools.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University has just held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's Decision on merging Hue Medical College into the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University under Decision No. 2346/QD-TTg dated October 23, 2025 of the Prime Minister.

The school continues to train college-level health workers according to social needs, especially serving the health system of Hue City, until there are new regulations from the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health and related legal documents.

The merger is a major policy to implement the Central's resolutions, contributing to developing Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy according to the national-level school-istic hospital model and towards international standards; at the same time, promoting the goal of developing Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital to meet the standards of advanced hospitals in the region.

Previously, the Government had decided to merge Thai Nguyen Medical College into Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hue Medical College into Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The process of merging and reorganizing must ensure normal operations, legitimate and legal rights and interests of the parties involved, and avoid negativity, loss and waste of finance and assets.

In Thanh Hoa, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has also just issued a plan to arrange public service units in the area. Accordingly, the province will keep Thanh Hoa Medical College.

In the health sector, Thanh Hoa will keep 7 provincial centers, 38 hospitals, and establish 166 new commune health stations; Develop a plan to arrange the Construction Investment Project Management Boards into 3 Project Management Boards under the Provincial People's Committee...

The Ministry of Health has also proposed a plan to reorganize the system of public service units in the health sector in the spirit of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the Central Committee.

In which, the Ministry proposed a plan: Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy will receive Hai Duong University of Medical Technology. Hai Duong Central College of Pharmacy will merge into Hanoi University of Pharmacy.

Key universities still under the Ministry of Health include: Hanoi Medical University; Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy; Hanoi University of Pharmacy; Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Nam Dinh Nursing University; Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy; University of Public Health; Da Nang University of Medicine and Pharmacy Technology.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City submitted a plan to reorganize public service units in the field of education and health. In particular, the Department proposed to merge Ba Ria - Vung Tau Medical College into Binh Duong Medical College, the name after the merger is Ho Chi Minh City Medical College.
