The Department of Education and Training (DET) of Can Tho City informed that according to the roadmap, in the 2025-2026 school year, 100% of primary schools in the city will teach 2 sessions/day. For the secondary school and high school levels, this depends on the situation of facilities and the teaching staff of each school.

According to the synthesis of review reports from public education service units in the area, by the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the city still lacks 2,519 teachers compared to the prescribed quota. Of which, the number of teachers still lacking compared to the assigned payroll is 1,993 people. Preschool level lacks 634 teachers; primary school lacks 706 teachers; secondary school lacks 380 teachers and high school lacks 273 teachers.
In order to not affect the organization of teaching and learning in 2 sessions/day according to the roadmap, the city's Department of Education and Training said that it will continue to review, appraise and submit to competent authorities for approval the number of people working at the units according to the staffing standards, ensuring enough teachers to teach.
At the same time, when there is a decision regulating the decentralization of management by the competent authority, the department will conduct recruitment to supplement teachers. While waiting for recruitment, the city's education sector continues to direct units to implement contracts for teachers.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Tran Thi Huyen - Acting Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City - said that since the beginning of the 2025 - 2026 school year, the department has directed schools and educational institutions to review facilities, number of students and classes as well as the teaching staff to develop a plan, synchronously and effectively implement the organization of teaching and learning in 2 sessions/day.
To ensure that teaching 2 sessions/day meets the needs of students, each school will survey, synthesize and assign a team of appropriate teaching teachers. For schools that do not have enough teachers to teach 2 sessions/day, the units will conduct additional guest lecturers outside to teach skills and enhancement subjects, said Ms. Huyen.

Regarding ensuring conditions for teaching 2 sessions/day starting from the 2025 - 2026 school year at general education institutions in the area, on September 25, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued Directive No. 06/CT-UBND on the implementation of tasks for the 2025 - 2026 school year of the Education and Training sector.
Accordingly, the Director of the Department of Education and Training is assigned to proactively review, arrange, regulate, and rotate teachers between educational institutions in the area to overcome the local surplus and shortage of teachers; recruit correctly and sufficiently teachers according to the number of positions assigned by competent authorities, preventing the situation of having positions without recruitment; have solutions to mobilize and contract artisans, artists, professional athletes, and foreign volunteers to participate in organizing educational activities in schools, especially in the fields of culture, arts, sports, life skills, etc.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune and ward shall recruit, manage and use the team of civil servants, especially teachers, in accordance with policies and regulations, correct job positions and number of employees assigned to public service units under his management; have synchronous and effective solutions to overcome local teacher shortages such as inter-school teaching assignments, limited teacher secondment, etc.
In addition, pay attention to and create favorable conditions for teachers and staff to participate in training and fostering classes to improve their qualifications, professional capacity and work efficiency.
