On September 25, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to summarize professional activities for the 2024-2025 school year and deploy tasks for the 2025-2026 school year for foreign language and IT centers.
According to the Department, by August 2025, the city will have 1,961 licensed foreign language and IT centers, of which 158 centers are foreign-invested and 1,803 are domestic.
In the past school year, the centers opened 49,163 classes, attracting about 268,580 students to study many subjects such as English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German and IT.
The units have diversified training forms, from individual tutoring, mass classes to online programs; many courses combining domestic and foreign teachers.
In addition, the centers also coordinated with educational institutions to organize 2,093/5,593 kindergartens to learn English and cooperate with IC3 schools to teach English through math, science, English for communication and IT.
Mr. Pham Phuong Binh - Deputy Head of the Department of Continuing Education, Vocational and University (HCMC Department of Education and Training) said that there are still some limitations: the center has not implemented the permitted program, advertised false information about foreign teachers, used unqualified teachers, recruited difficulties due to prolonged legal procedures. Some places also organize activities outside of educational functions such as preschool care, satellite boarding, and extra summer teaching.
In this situation, Ms. Truong Hai Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - suggested that the centers focus on training expertise, strictly managing the teaching activities of foreign teachers, investing in facilities, applying information technology and artificial intelligence to build a modern and safe learning environment.
The Department of Education and Training is also committed to accompanying and providing legal support and hopes that centers will proactively connect and share experiences through club models, contributing to improving teaching efficiency.
