At Binh Tri Dong B Secondary School (An Lac Ward), Principal Ho Thanh Danh said that the preparation work has been completed.
The school arranged a stage, LED screen, built a program to welcome 6th graders, and organized fundraising activities to support people in flooded areas and decorate classrooms.
This year, the school welcomed nearly 900 6th grade students, divided into 20 classes, bringing the total to nearly 1,600 students. This is a new school that has been in use since the previous school year.
At Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Gia Dinh Ward), Ms. Hua Thi Diem Tram - Principal said that preparations for the opening ceremony have been completed.
This year, the school has arranged an LED screen so that students can watch the entire general program online on the opening day nationwide.
"Before 8am, the school will organize a reception for 6th graders. Traditionally, grade 9 students will take on the role of welcoming grade 6 students, creating a friendly and close atmosphere. The special thing this year is that the school does not use congratulatory flowers like every year. Instead, according to the new policy of the Department of Education and Training (DET), partner units and congratulatory groups (if any) all sent trees to contribute to adding green space to the school campus that has just been repaired and upgraded.
For grade 9 students, instead of giving flowers to welcome them, they will prepare small pots of plants to give to grade 6 students. Each pot of tree will be planted and cared for by 6th graders in class, symbolizing the green shoots - the dream shoots that are growing in the new environment," said Ms. Tram.
After the welcoming ceremony for 6th graders, the school will organize a welcoming ceremony for delegates and introduce 6th graders. The whole school then participated in watching the opening program online, ensuring compliance with the general direction.
Previously, at the conference to deploy tasks for the new school year, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu emphasized that this is an "special, unprecedented" opening ceremony.
He requested schools to arrange yard, roof, screen, and stable online communication so that students can fully participate, avoiding being affected by the weather.
For schools with unfinished construction works, he suggested that construction should be temporarily suspended and cleaned on the opening day to ensure a clean and solemn space.
Yesterday (September 3), the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City also sent an official dispatch to educational institutions on preparation work.
Accordingly, the Department recommends using flowers only in locations that are really necessary to create highlights, not to be ostentatious or wasteful.
The Ho Chi Minh City education sector does not accept congratulatory flowers in any form from agencies, organizations, businesses, parents or individuals attending.
The Department also requires schools to proactively notify parents and partners of this policy early and widely in many forms such as documents, notices on websites, news boards or social networks.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have more than 2.5 million students with more than 3,500 schools, continuing to be the locality with the largest education scale in the country.
