On January 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDDT) issued a notice of conclusions of Deputy Director Le Thuy My Chau at the workshop "Assessing the results of 5 years of implementing the organization for preschool children to become familiar with English according to Circular No. 50/2020/TT-BGDDT".
Over 5 years of implementation, the organization of English access for preschool children has achieved many positive results, reflected in the program and method of organization in the direction of taking children as the center; the teaching staff basically meets the requirements for professional qualifications; materials and materials are used in accordance with regulations; the application of digital technology initially brings efficiency.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the number of preschool education institutions and the number of children participating in familiarizing themselves with English is increasing, mainly concentrated in the 5-6 age group, contributing to preparing a foundation for children before entering primary school, in line with the orientation of developing preschool education and the policy of making English the second language in schools.
However, leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training emphasized that preschool education institutions need to continue to strictly implement Circular 50, correctly identify the nature of "making friends", in order to create excitement and form an initial foundation for children; absolutely do not chase after achievements, do not put pressure.
English familiarization activities must be organized gently, suitable to the psychological and physiological characteristics of the age group, focusing on developing listening skills, considering this as an important premise for children to pronounce correctly, communicate confidently and develop language naturally.
Regarding organizing preschool children to become familiar with English through technology access and English integration, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requests facilities to strengthen communication, create consensus among parents; ensure full conditions and gradually deploy in accordance with the actual situation.
In addition, the city's education sector continues to promote the organization of preschool children to become familiar with English associated with digital technology access; effectively exploit support software, open materials and learning materials in the direction of integration; step by step build and share shared learning materials, ensuring inheritance and intercommunication with the next level of education.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also requests to focus on improving the quality of preschool teachers, strengthening in-depth training in English knowledge, methods and operational organization skills; focusing on building a language environment in classrooms, effectively using materials, teaching aids and support software suitable for the age group.
