Tay Bac University, formerly Thai - Meo Autonomous Area Secondary Pedagogical School, was established in 1960.
After 65 years of construction and development, the school has continuously developed, from 12 teachers in the early days, to now the school has 6 associate professors, 87 PhDs and more than 200 masters.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Lo Minh Hung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Son La Provincial Party Committee, praised the contributions of generations of teachers and students of the school.
At the same time, he suggested that the school continue to innovate governance, develop multi-disciplinary fields, promote digital transformation, build a team of high-quality lecturers, worthy of being a regional university in the Northwest.
It is known that the school currently trains 25 undergraduate majors and 2 master's majors, expanding to many key areas to serve the socio-economic development of the region.
Since 2001, the school has awarded degrees to more than 20,000 full-time bachelors, nearly 6,000 undergraduate bachelors, more than 17,000 bachelor's degrees in both work and study and hundreds of masters.
Along with training, scientific research activities, technology transfer and self-training of Lao students are also promoted.
According to Decision 452/QD-TTg dated February 27, 2025 of the Prime Minister, Tay Bac University is identified as one of the 14 key institutions for teacher training, with a vision to develop into a regional university after 2030.
The delegation of Tay Bac University also awarded 50 scholarships worth more than 30 million VND to new students in difficult circumstances.
