On July 21, Ms. D.T.Y (residing in Pong Drang commune, Dak Lak province) confirmed that she had just received a notice from Phan Dang Luu High School about the results of the verification of the application related to additional teaching in martial arts.
According to the verification results of Phan Dang Luu High School, the school did not organize additional martial arts classes but allowed teachers to take students to the schoolyard to teach martial arts.
The organization of martial arts training is based on the permission of the Dak Lak Provincial Karate Association and the agreement between parents and teachers. In total, each student paid 2.3 million VND for 9 months of study.
According to Phan Dang Luu High School, during the teaching process, the two physical education teachers had unclear statements, leading to misunderstandings among students.
Regarding the survey of students' opinions, the school said that because it was a summer vacation, the unit could only survey 11 students. Therefore, there is not enough basis to confirm that the teachers have words that suggest or create better conditions for students to register to participate in martial arts classes.
According to the study, the school has also released a statistical table showing that there are a total of 99 students studying martial arts, all of whom are classified as having physical education.
Meanwhile, the number of students taught by the two teachers but assessed as not good at physical education is 38. These students did not register to study martial arts.
Regarding the handling direction, Phan Dang Luu High School requested the two physical education teachers to review and learn from their experience before the Pedagogical Council for having unclear words and inappropriate behavior. At the same time, review the emulation and reward results of the two teachers in the 2024 - 2025 school year and end the organization of martial arts teaching in the schoolyard.
"I and some parents do not agree with the verification results of the school. Therefore, I will continue to file a complaint to the competent authority to propose a resolution.
Many issues I recommended have not been clarified in the notification of verification results. Typically, the results of the student survey and the results of the work with the group of parents are not mentioned," Ms. Y added.
Previously, Ms. D.T.Y (who has a child studying at school) submitted a petition to the authorities to verify and handle the case of two physical education teachers of Phan Dang Luu High School organizing extra classes of martial arts with many missing socks, causing frustration for many parents.
Ms. Y said that the two teachers organized extra classes in martial arts right in the school with a fee of 2 million VND/student/year (not including money for shopping). Notably, if any student registers to study martial arts, they will be given priority for assessment of their physical education completion and vice versa.
Many families have many children and are poor, so having to pay extra for martial arts will put them in a difficult situation.
Some parents whose children are studying at the above school are also upset about the organization of extra classes in martial arts. They said that this has existed for many years. However, no one dared to speak up for fear of affecting their children.
The Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee has sent a petition and reflection from Ms. D.T.Y to the Department of Education and Training for handling according to regulations.
