As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, due to the impact of storm No. 11, the water of Cau River through Trung Gia Commune (Hanoi City) overflowed the dike, causing deep flooding in residential areas and cutting off National Highway 3. Rising floodwaters caused landslides on the railway foundation, washing away the ballast at the route Km16+800 - Km17+500 in the Da Phuc - Trung Gia section, causing the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen railway line to be completely paralyzed.
According to the report of Ha Thai Railway Joint Stock Company (the line management unit), there are 3 locations that are seriously affected, including a location where floodwaters washed away the entire roadbed of about 40m long, 4m deep; the rails are "suspended", creating a large gap such as a dike break, water flows rapidly downstream, making it difficult to fix.
Immediately after the incident, Ha Thai Railway Joint Stock Company mobilized maximum human resources, equipment, machinery, organized 3 consecutive shifts to urgently reinforce the roadbed, and provide emergency care at eroded locations.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Tam - Director of Ha Thai Railway Joint Stock Company said that by 6:30 p.m. on October 12, all landslides in the Da Phuc - Trung Gia area had been fixed. The construction ship HC9969 has completed the release of 5 crushed stone vehicles to Da Phuc station at 9:05 p.m., the safety of the clearing area was cleared at 9:10 p.m. and the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen railway line officially reopened.
