In December 2022, the Hanoi People's Committee started the project to expand National Highway 6 by 21.7km through Ha Dong and Chuong My districts, of which the section through Chuong My district is 15.8km long and Ha Dong is 5.9km long.
The starting point of the project is located at km14 in Ba La, Ha Dong district; the end point is km38, Xuan Mai town, Chuong My district.
The project has a total investment of 8,100 billion VND from the city budget. Of which, over VND 5,100 billion is for site clearance (GPMB), VND 2,900 billion is for construction and equipment procurement costs.
According to the design, the route will be expanded to 50-60m, with a design speed of 80km/h. On the route, there is a box culvert (Tuan culvert) and seven bridges including: Mai Linh, Dong Tru, Tan Truong, Quan Lat, Xuan Mai, Song Bui and Nam Lu.
The project has four main intersections, including intersections of different levels (where two or more roads intersect at different elevations) with National Highway 21A, the North-South axis road and Ring Road 4.

In Chuong My district, the locality has so far handed over the site to the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) with a total length of about 20.02 km (including the right and left sides of the road), in 9/9 communes and towns, with an area of about 59.77ha/84.4ha - reaching 70% of the area that needs to be reclaimed to serve the project section passing through the district.
To clear the remaining 30% of the area, a representative of the Chuong My District Land Fund Development Center said that it is necessary to overcome some problems (assemble funds, appraise maps to serve the compensation for land clearance; move underground and above-ground works)...

From the above reality, in order to promptly hand over the remaining 30% of the site, the People's Committee of Chuong My district recommends that units subject to site clearance promptly approve the policy of changing the purpose of using national defense land, demolishing the lots, and handing over to the locality to implement the project; the Department of Agriculture and Environment is interested in submitting to the City People's Committee a plan to handle green trees.
On the other hand, the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 6 (Ba La - Xuan Mai section), part of the transition project between the 2013 Land Law and the 2024 Land Law; before the 2024 Land Law took effect, the People's Committee of Chuong My district approved the compensation, support and resettlement plan according to the 2013 Land Law and the policy mechanism according to the provisions of Decision No. 10/2017 of the Hanoi People's Committee to create high consensus among the people, the People's Committee of Chuong My district also proposed that the Hanoi People's Committee approve the district to continue approving the compensation and support plan for assets on land for households (belonging to 30% of the area without land acquisition in the project), supported according to Decision No. 10/2017 issued by the City People's Committee.
The People's Committee of Chuong My district also requested the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board to speed up the completion of sections with cleared land.

In Ha Dong district, the total land area to be recovered for the project is about 26.46 hectares, involving 1,146 households and individuals. The number of households expected to be resettled is about 317 households. Currently, Ha Dong district is also speeding up the site clearance progress to hand over to the contractor for the project.
The project is expected to be completed in 2027 with the expectation of reducing congestion, synchronously connecting technical infrastructure, contributing to the socio-economic development of the capital. The upgrading of the route will enhance connectivity and trade between Hanoi and the Northwestern provinces and Laos.
