Quang Tri - For many years, people in Cat and Tria villages have lived in a state of disarray because the road to the village was severely damaged, and they were completely isolated during the rainy season.

Cat and Tria villages in Huong Phung commune (Quang Tri province) with 175 households of more than 500 people are located deep in the forest under the Nam Quang Tri Special Forest Management Board. From the commune center to the place where there are only about 20km of forest roads, but the roads are muddy, slippery, and many sections of the road are impassable for motorbikes. When it rains, the road is paralyzed.

To take a car, people have to go around 5 communes with a distance of more than 85km. However, this route currently has 6 large landslides, some places are in the suburbs.

Due to recent heavy rains, Cat and Tria have been isolated and their trade has stagnated.

Most recently, in the early morning of November 21, to take a pregnant woman to the emergency room, more than 20 Cat residents had to use bamboo and rope stretchers, taking turns carrying her for more than 3 hours to get to the ambulance.

Mr. Ho Van Phon, a resident of Cat village, said that the road was already difficult to travel, but now the consecutive storms have caused many sections to collapse completely. "We have to follow the forest path, it is very dangerous," said Mr. Phon.

Not only travel, but people's production is also stagnant. Cat village has 58 households with 180 people, living mainly on rice and glue. However, the landslide has made it impossible to transport agricultural products outside, and the buying and selling has almost completely stopped. Students from the villages have to cross the forest for hours to get to school; many students have to stay at relatives' houses in the central area to get to school in time.

Mr. Ha Ngoc Duong - Head of the Economic Department of Huong Phung commune said that the locality has surveyed and proposed to include the route in the investment priority list. In the immediate future, the commune will mobilize social resources, call on businesses to support materials and labor, and coordinate with armed forces to handle serious landslides to ensure temporary traffic. In the long term, the commune has reported to the Provincial People's Committee, proposing to allocate capital from target programs to invest in solid road construction.

Recently, working groups from departments and branches have inspected the scene to find appropriate solutions. According to Party Secretary and Chairman of Huong Phung Commune People's Council Ho Van Vinh, the commune is mobilizing Economic - Defense Group 337, Border Guard, Police and militia to open temporary roads along the trail so that people can travel by motorbike. For locations in deep streams, the locality will make stone cages and temporary bridges while waiting for investment.

The immediate solution is only temporary. To ensure long-term safety and stability for the people of Cat and Tria, it is necessary to invest in connecting routes" - Mr. Vinh emphasized.
