On November 16, Mr. Nguyen Khac Viet - Executive Director of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway Project - said that he is implementing solutions to completely overcome the situation of flooding during heavy rain at 2 locations on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway, through Lam Dong province.

According to Mr. Viet, the area of km233 through Ham Kiem commune has been flooded many times during heavy rain. The local drainage ditch is small, with thick grass, causing the flow to be blocked.
In the immediate future, the unit has dredged and cleared the flow in this area. Currently, the canal expansion is being implemented to ensure drainage.
"Expand the downstream culvert at km233+100, replace the existing culvert with 4 culverts of 2m x 2m to synchronize with the drainage culverts on the expressway" - Mr. Viet emphasized the solution.

According to records, at this location, mud and grass along the ditch have been cleared, the flow is more airy.
At km215, through Ham Liem commune, rainwater from people's land often poured onto the road through the slope, causing the road surface to be flooded many times.
The project management board has implemented a bidding package to build drainage ditches and reinforce the slope to completely handle the above situation.

A vertical ditch will be dug on the top of the positive slope on the right side of the route, about 700m long. This ditch is responsible for directing water flows from the outside, especially from people's land, leading water in a safe direction, avoiding overflowing onto the road surface.
The locations with signs of landslides on the slope will also be reinforced with concrete structure.
As Lao Dong reported, since the beginning of September, the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway has repeatedly recorded flooding at km215 and km233. The flood water is sometimes higher than half a wheel, forcing vehicles to slow down, posing a risk to traffic safety. The route management unit and the Traffic Police force had to temporarily block the road for handling.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Viet added that the expressway has been handed over for operation but is still within the warranty period, so the repair is the responsibility of Project Management Board 7 (Ministry of Construction).
During the exploitation process in the past 2 years, the road has not experienced any flooding. However, recent weather has been extreme, with heavy and concentrated rainfall causing water to accumulate quickly, causing local flooding.
The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway is over 100km long, part of the North - South Expressway in the East, exploited since May 2023. The route consists of 4 lanes, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h, and a total investment of 11,500 billion VND.
This is an important traffic axis that helps shorten travel time from Phan Thiet to Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City, reducing the load on National Highway 1.
