The Traffic Police Department (CSGT), Hanoi City Police said that the unit encourages people using paper driving licenses to proactively switch to PET plastic cards to improve security and convenience in use, while contributing to the implementation of national digital transformation in the field of road traffic.
Currently, many citizens are still using the cover driving license issued in previous years. This type of license is easily damaged, difficult to preserve, easily forged and makes management difficult.
Since July 1, 2012, the Ministry of Transport (formerly) has implemented the issuance of driving licenses using PET plastic materials with high durability and security, integrating QR codes to help authorities easily check and authenticate information.
Changing to PET driving license brings many practical benefits to people. PET cards are durable, waterproof, moistureproof, compact, and convenient to carry. Driver's license information is digitized and synchronized on the national database, helping to look up and verify more quickly and accurately.
People can integrate PET driving licenses into the VNeID application to present when working with the authorities without having to bring many documents; at the same time, they can easily reissue or reissue in any locality, saving time and costs.
In particular, PET driving licenses are a necessary condition to be granted an International Driving License (IDP), facilitating Vietnamese citizens when participating in traffic in countries that are members of the 1968 Convention.
The Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police, recommends that local people coordinate with the police at the commune and ward levels in reviewing and updating driver's license information; at the same time, soon implement the conversion from paper to PET plastic cards to make it more convenient for use, contributing to building a modern, transparent and synchronous traffic data system.
