On December 15, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee officially signed a decision approving the investment policy for the Phan Thiet Airport project - civil aviation item in Mui Ne ward, in the form of bidding to select investors.
The decision of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee stated that the project will meet the increasing demand for air transport, creating momentum to promote socio-economic development, associated with the national defense and security tasks of the region and Lam Dong province.
The specific goal of the project is to serve the operation of level 4E civil aviation aircraft, with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers/year (2030). The airport will operate domestic flights and non- ki ki ki ki flights when needed.
The project uses nearly 75 hectares of land. The total estimated investment capital is about VND 3,797.9 billion, excluding compensation, support and resettlement costs.
The project's operation period is 50 years, from the date the investor is approved according to current legal regulations.
Notably, the decision approving the investment policy this time is accompanied by strict binding provisions. After 24 months from the date of completion of the investment project's operational target progress. If the investor fails to complete and is not eligible for an extension according to regulations, the project will be terminated.
Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee assigned relevant departments, branches and localities, based on assigned functions and tasks, to proactively guide and support investors in fully implementing legal procedures, ensuring the project is implemented on schedule, in accordance with plan and commitments.
The Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee's decision to approve the investment in the Phan Thiet Airport project - civil aviation item is an important procedure for this project to be included in the bidding to select a public investor, according to the Investment Law.
At the end of November 2025, the Provincial People's Committee Office conducted procedures to collect opinions from members of the Provincial People's Committee to decide on the approval of the project investment policy and submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and requesting opinions from the Provincial People's Committee Party Committee.
In mid-July 2025, a company sent a document to the Office of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee regarding interest and request for investment in civil items of Phan Thiet Airport Project.
Phan Thiet airport started construction in January 2015. According to the approved plan, the project consists of 2 items: Military airport and civil airport.
Currently, the military item built by the Air Defense - Air Force has been basically completed and put into operation.
