These days, people in Van Ho and Moc Chau districts are eagerly waiting for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway, the section passing through Son La province, scheduled to take place on the morning of May 18, 2025.
The long-standing desire for a convenient connecting route, shortening the journey, promoting trade and developing tourism is getting closer than ever.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong (36 years old - a local resident of Van Ho district) shared: "For a long time, people have wanted a wide road, convenient for travel, especially during the rainy and windy season.
Now that we know about the preparation to start the expressway, everyone is happy. Later, transporting goods to Hanoi and Moc Chau was faster, without having to go around or worry about dangerous mountain passes".
Not only agricultural people, but tourism service businesses in Moc Chau also expect the expressway to create a new development boost.
Mr. Ngo Thanh Tung - Deputy Director of Tay Bac Tourism Company expressed: "Moc Chau is developing strongly in tourism, but traffic is still a barrier. If there was a highway, it would only take 2 - 2.5 hours for visitors from Hanoi to get here, and the number of visitors would certainly increase a lot".
According to Mr. Tung, the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway not only contributes to shortening the distance from the capital to the Northwest, but also creates conditions for developing tourism corridors, high-tech agriculture, opening up new development space for the two provinces of Son La - Hoa Binh and the entire Northwest region.
Mr. Nguyen Hop Cuong - Director of the Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects of Son La province, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway Construction Investment project will take place in Van Son ward, Moc Chau town.
To prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony, Son La province has established an Organizing Committee, working groups, and assigned detailed tasks to the members.
Up to now, the preparation for the groundbreaking ceremony has completed the design of the commencement area; building overall programs, groundbreaking scenarios and some other reception contents; Building a report video on the project; Select and sign contracts with the event organizer.
Currently, relevant agencies and units are focusing on completing signs and posters to inform about the project; coordinating with the winning bidder to level the area for the groundbreaking ceremony...
The Hoa Binh - Moc Chau Expressway section through Son La is about 32.3km long, starting at Km53 (Chieng Yen Commune, Van Ho District) and ending at Km85+300 (Phieng Luong Commune, Moc Chau District), intersecting with National Highway 43.
The project has a total investment of about 4,938 billion VND, using State budget capital, implementation period from 2023 to 2028.
The first phase will be implemented in a 2-lane scale, however, the scope of site clearance will be in a 4-lane scale.
This is part of the overall expressway of more than 90km connecting Hoa Binh - Moc Chau, expected to shorten travel time from Hanoi to Moc Chau to about 2.5 hours.
