In the last days of the year At Ti, prolonged cold rainy weather and year-end traffic pressure caused many roads in the Capital to fall into serious congestion, making it difficult for people and vehicles to move.
Recorded on February 9, 2026 (December 22nd of the lunar calendar), in many areas such as Lang - Truong Chinh road, Thang Long - Nguyen Chi Thanh underpass, Pham Hung - Me Tri - Duong Dinh Nghe routes, Nguyen Chanh - Tran Duy Hung intersection, Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien... the flow of people and vehicles lined up, making traffic difficult. At many times, traffic jams were prolonged, and localized congestion occurred.

The cause was determined to be that on the first day of the week, the demand for travel, shopping and transportation of goods to serve Tet increased sharply. In particular, the 22nd day of the twelfth lunar month is the time when people go out early to shop for offerings to Ong Cong and Ong Tao, making traffic pressure even greater. Rainy and cold weather caused many drivers to cautiously slow down, leading to traffic congestion through tunnels and intersections.
Faced with the above situation, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT), Hanoi City Police has strengthened forces and synchronously deployed traffic diversion and regulation plans to ensure traffic order and safety.
Accordingly, traffic police forces are arranged to be on duty at key intersections, arterial routes and gateways to the city; and at the same time closely coordinate with local police to organize traffic diversion and guidance, promptly handle arising situations, and limit prolonged congestion.
Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Duc Canh, officer of Road Traffic Police Team No. 3, said that in the days leading up to Tet, the traffic volume of people and vehicles increased very high, while the prolonged cold and rainy weather potentially poses a risk of congestion. "From early morning, the working groups proactively diverted and regulated traffic, minimizing congestion in the area under their responsibility," Lieutenant Colonel Canh said.

At the same time, an officer of Road Traffic Police Team No. 7 said that the unit has seriously implemented a plan to ensure traffic order and safety according to the direction of superiors; maintaining duty forces at key intersections not only during peak hours but throughout all hours of the day.
Along with that, mobile patrol and control teams are maintained regularly to promptly handle incidents and prevent prolonged congestion. In the days before, during and after Tet, the unit will maintain 100% of personnel, determined to ensure smooth and safe traffic for people to travel.
Hanoi Traffic Police Department also recommends that in rainy and cold weather conditions, slippery roads and increased traffic volume, traffic participants need to strictly comply with legal regulations on traffic order and safety; reduce speed, maintain a safe distance and comply with the guidance of functional forces to ensure safety for themselves and the community.
