According to Da Nang City People's Committee, this locality is experiencing an average increase in passenger volume of 20-30% per year. Currently, Da Nang airport welcomes about 130-170 flights/day. In 2025, passenger volume has exceeded the designed capacity.
Specifically, domestic terminal T1 is serving 7.5 million passengers (exceeding 1.5 million compared to a capacity of 6 million); international terminal T2 welcomes 6.8 million passengers (exceeding 2.8 million compared to a designed capacity of 4 million).
Due to the specific time zone, international flights are often concentrated in the midday and late night hours. This situation causes check-in, entry and exit and baggage scanning areas to frequently fall into congestion, passengers have to queue for a long time, directly affecting the image of "World's attractive destination" that Da Nang is building.
Faced with the urgent situation, Da Nang City People's Committee has issued documents directing the implementation of solutions to cool down the overload situation.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to review the entire transport infrastructure connecting the airport, propose plans to renovate and upgrade entrances and exits and passenger pick-up and drop-off points to reduce congestion in front of the terminal. The Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) are required to increase personnel to monitor epidemics during peak hours, but must ensure quick procedures and not slow down the flow of people.
In particular, the Border Gate Police and Airport Customs are required to open maximum check-in counters during peak hours. The city also encourages airlines to promote technology applications such as online check-in, self-bag dropping systems to reduce pressure on manual staff.
Da Nang City People's Committee has also proposed to the Ministry of Public Security to increase personnel for the Immigration Management Department (A08) at the airport and soon expand the automatic control system (Autogate). Proposing the Ministry of Construction and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to accelerate the progress of projects to upgrade runways, expand cargo terminals and aircraft parking yards according to planning. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam needs to re-coordinate flight slots (departure and landing time slots) reasonably, avoiding concentrating too many flights into the same time frame, putting pressure on the terminal infrastructure.
Da Nang City People's Committee will closely coordinate with central agencies to synchronously implement solutions. The goal is not only to remove immediate congestion but also to prepare infrastructure capacity commensurate with a leading event, festival and MICE (tourism combined with conference) center in the region.
