Son Mua bridge was invested and built to replace the old bridge that collapsed due to floods, connecting Son Tay and Son Tay Thuong communes. The project was implemented in the 2023-2025 period but is still unfinished to this day.
According to the design, the entire bridge and approach roads at both ends are more than 437 meters long; of which, the main bridge section is more than 179 meters long. Currently, the bridge item has been basically completed, and railings have also been installed. However, due to the lack of approach roads, the construction unit was forced to fence off, and has not been able to put the project into operation. The bridge has therefore fallen into a "mismatched" situation, lying precariously in the middle of the river, higher than the existing residential area around it.

Mr. Phan Thanh Lanh, technical officer of Thanh Dat Construction Co., Ltd. (the construction unit), said that the lack of clean ground causes the unit many difficulties. Machinery and equipment have to stop operating for a long time, leading to increased management costs. If equipment is relocated back to the enterprise, it also incurs large additional costs due to the long transportation distance and complex terrain.
We hope that relevant parties will soon coordinate and hand over the site to construct the access road section before the rainy season. Mountainous areas have very limited construction conditions, mainly depending on sunny weather. This is a key factor to complete the project," Mr. Lanh emphasized.
Regarding the reasons for the delay, Mr. Dinh Van Duong, Director of Son Tay Area Project Management Board (investor of Son Mua bridge project), explained: "The access road section on Son Tay commune side is entangled in planning from the Truong Son Dong road to the bridgehead, so it must be partially adjusted and requested policy approval to adjust the access road to the bridgehead. This has prolonged the progress. The 2023-2025 period cannot be completely implemented because it is necessary to wait for completion of planning and design adjustment procedures.

Also according to Mr. Duong, the project has been allowed to adjust the implementation time to 2026. The unit is submitting for appraisal the design dossier of the access road section from the Truong Son Dong route to the bridgehead to continue implementation in the near future.
Mr. Dinh Cong Lap, Vice Chairman of Son Tay Commune People's Committee, said that the tasks under local responsibility have basically been completed, including land recovery from households and related organizations. Procedures are being publicly posted according to regulations.
In the coming time, we will coordinate with the Son Tay Area Project Management Board to continue to implement compensation and payment work, in order to accelerate the project progress," Mr. Lap said.
