Investing in and upgrading transport infrastructure
According to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, in preparation for APEC 2027, air, water and ministries' transport infrastructure in Phu Quoc is being urgently invested in. Build Phu Quoc International Airport to achieve level 4E, expand to 1,073 hectares, extend the existing runway to 3.5km, build a new runway No. 2 with a length of 3.3km, build a new terminal T2 as an international terminal with a capacity of up to 20 million passengers and a VIP terminal...
An Thoi International Seaport will be upgraded to a scale of 100 hectares, capable of welcoming the world's largest cruise ships such as Icon of the Seas, with the capacity to carry from 7,000 to 10,000 visitors.
Regarding road routes from Phu Quoc International Passenger Port to the APEC Conference Center, Phu Quoc will expand Provincial Road 975, invest in building new urban shipping routes, implement the eastern coastal route project, upgrade the Truong Duong Dong to Bac Dao (975B) routes and the Phu Quoc Island East - West Avenue project connecting Phu Quoc's new administrative area with Ham Ninh port.
Along with that are APEC Avenue projects creating a vertical axis connecting from the DT route. 973, DT. 975 with APEC Multi-function Complex, with a roadbed width of 68m and a length of about 3km. In addition, Phu Quoc will also renovate and underground many items in existing urban areas such as An Thoi and Duong Dong and urgently complete infrastructure works to create synchronous development for the city such as: Investing in lakes and water plants; renovating the Duong Dong River; building wastewater treatment plants and domestic waste treatment plants.
The APEC multi-functional complex is a 57ha reclaimed sea project with a unique landscape associated with the existing beach. The complex has a total capacity of nearly 15,000 people, including the following works: Conference and Exhibition Center of up to 10,000m2 to serve the requirements of organizing international conferences and seminars with a capacity of 3,000 to 3,500 seats; Multi-purpose Office; International Press Center to serve 3,000 - 4,000 reporters, APEC Square, High-rise Complex including hotels, non-tax commercial shopping centers and Multi-purpose Cultural and Artistic Palace with a capacity of 3,000 - 3,500 seats, with modern equipment that can organize art programs and shows staged by leading units in the world.
Mobilizing all resources, doing quickly, quality
Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan said: Phu Quoc is the 3rd locality in Vietnam and the first locality in the Southern region to be chosen as the venue for the activities of the APEC 2027 Summit.
Recognizing the importance and significance of this event, Kien Giang province has actively evaluated the infrastructure, proposed the Government a number of key projects, as well as proposing appropriate mechanisms and policies. The province proposes solutions and roadmap to mobilize the maximum political system, with the participation of people, resources from society, especially strategic investors in order to carefully prepare for the APEC 2027 Conference.
"This is an important task, the requirement is to do it urgently and strictly. All works, projects, and tasks must be completed on schedule, with quality, without waste, or negativity; meeting international standards, contributing to making APEC 2027 an important milestone for Phu Quoc, Kien Giang province in particular and Vietnam in general to international friends, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized.
In order for the works to be able to "finish", Phu Quoc needs the drastic companion of the local government and the strong participation of strategic investors. With the fierce participation of both the political system and the people, Vietnam will successfully complete this task, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of international friends about a peaceful, dynamic, integration and responsible Vietnam.
The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that leaders of Kien Giang province, Phu Quoc city as well as leaders of ministries, departments, branches and central organizations need to do a good job of investment preparation and site clearance; There must be a special mechanism, in the implementation process, if there are difficulties and problems, Phu Quoc will work with Phu Quoc to resolve them. Will promote investment promotion, attract domestic and international strategic investors to have enough potential and capacity to participate in service infrastructure projects.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha suggested: "Urgently review and identify investment projects that are eligible for APEC to have a plan to embellish, improve quality, ensure the highest standards when organizing APEC in terms of aesthetic function, energy saving, harmonizing with the environment, natural landscapes, in line with the cultural identity of Phu Quoc and Vietnam to become a highlight for Phu Quoc's development." If Decision 178 has laid an important foundation, a guideline "helping Phu Quoc take off", the APEC 2027 event is a very valuable and breakthrough opportunity, open to the strong development of "Phu Quoc in the new era - the era of the nation".
