Cheap online mooncakes reduce attraction, safe choices

Can Tho - Facing the "matrix" of cheap online moon cakes, consumers are increasingly careful, prioritizing choosing products from reputable brands to ensure safety.

Priority for direct purchase

At this time, not only at stalls, shops, supermarkets but also on e-commerce platforms, social networks are selling many types of moon cakes with diverse designs. However, compared to the online market, many consumers prioritize shopping directly to be able to check the origin and evaluate the quality of the product.

In the past 2 years, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tam (office worker, Ninh Kieu ward) has limited her purchase of moon cakes as well as cheap food sold on social networks, instead switching to big brands.

Before, I also often bought cakes online because they were cheap and had beautiful designs. But since I had information about poor quality and unknown origin cakes, I switched to buying from big brands. I would rather spend a few tens of thousands more to buy cakes at supermarkets and big stores, I could see the packaging, expiration date and know the origin of the product with more confidence," Ms. Tam shared.

Sharing the same view, Ms. Nguyen Thi Au ( freelancer, Tan An ward) said that last year, she tried buying handmade moon cakes on e-commerce platforms. But when receiving the goods, compared to online, she found that the packaging and product information were quite sketchy and blurred. Therefore, this year, she only bought at the supermarket to easily choose according to her wishes and evaluate the quality of the product.

"This year, I have seen many cheap handmade and mini moon cakes on the internet. However, buying gifts for families, especially young children, safety is still paramount. The cakes are a little more expensive, but clearly the quality is still the priority choice, said Ms. Au.

Tightening food safety

Recorded at Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket, mooncakes have started to be on shelves since mid-August to serve customers. Not only diversifying designs, types and many attractive incentive programs, the supermarket also strictly controls the origin, origin and expiration date of the product.

Understanding the increasingly diverse needs of customers, we have opened a fresh moon cake counter, combining sales with cakes from major brands. Goods sold at supermarkets are strictly managed for input and carefully preserved throughout the business process, said Ms. Dang Ngoc Uyen Phuong - Deputy Director of Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket.

According to the Steering Committee 389 of Can Tho City, in the first 9 months of the year, the city's functional forces discovered and handled 622 violations of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; the total amount of money handled for violations reached over 7.5 billion VND.

In the face of the above situation, the City Steering Committee 389 and related units continue to closely coordinate between forces in inspecting, verifying, investigating, and handling violations. In particular, focus on inspecting and supervising the market for essential goods to serve the needs of people during the Mid-Autumn Festival and the end of the year, promoting legal dissemination to businesses and people.
