The moon cake market kicks off, big brands launch early

Can Tho - The "landing" of major brands has launched the 2025 moon cake market in Can Tho City with many diverse products and designs.

Familiar brands launch early

Recorded at Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket, since mid-August, moon cake items have begun to be on shelves with a variety of designs and flavors.

In addition to products from big and reputable brands, the supermarket also has fresh moon cake stalls, serving newly-made cakes, with many attractive shapes, from funny to traditional animals, meeting customers' shopping needs.

Ms. Dang Ngoc Uyen Phuong - Deputy Director of Co.op Mart Can Tho supermarket - said: "The 2025 moon cake market at the supermarket started quite early. Grasping the increasingly diverse needs of customers, the unit has increased products from major manufacturers and brands as well as opened more fresh cake stalls. To increase attraction, we also invest in exhibition and decoration at cake stalls.

Meanwhile, on some central streets of Can Tho City such as 3/2, 30/4, Mau Than, Hoa Binh, ... many moon cake stalls have been on the streets quite early. Through observation, most of the cake stalls display familiar brands on the market such as Kinh Do, Nhu Lan, Dong Khanh...

Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh - owner of a cake stall in Ninh Kieu ward (Can Tho city) - shared that in addition to traditional designs, manufacturers have also launched new packaging that are very eye-catching.

"Coming to the city early is mainly to find a prime location, attract customers and create a competitive advantage. This year, I continue to import popular cakes such as green bean grilled cakes, roasted chicken mix, scallop mix, ... and add sticky rice cakes, printed cakes, side cakes... to serve customers," said Ms. Lan Anh.

The mid-range segment takes center stage

One of the notable points of this year's moon cake market is that prices are relatively stable, not much fluctuation compared to last year. In particular, products in the mid-range segment, suitable for consumers' budgets, are given priority.

According to Ms. Phuong, after a few days of opening for sale, the average price of weekly cakes has been chosen by customers to try more than other segments. This shows that consumers still prioritize affordable products, suitable for daily eating needs in the family. However, for customers who want to give away gifts, the choice is for products with higher value.

"Although the affordable and mid-range segments are popular, we also have high-end products, serving customers' gifts, with attractive incentives," said Ms. Phuong.

Having been open for sale for nearly a month, Ms. Lan Anh's purchasing power at the moon cake counter is still not really vibrant. Customers mainly buy for trial use in small quantities, because there is still a long way to go for the main Mid-Autumn Festival.

According to Ms. Lan Anh, consumers tend to choose traditional cakes, priced from 65,000 - 90,000 VND/cake for mixed fillings, from 45,000 - 80,000 VND/cake for sweet fillings. As for special lines with higher prices, from 100,000 - 400,000 VND/cake, they are still not popular.
