Boeing's Commercial Aviation Market outlook Report (CMO) forecasts that passenger volume and fleet size will grow strongly across Southeast Asia by 2043. The report includes a number of important findings for Vietnam, the largest aviation tourism market in Southeast Asia.
Air passenger traffic in Southeast Asia is forecast to increase by more than 7% annually. Notably, Vietnam recorded outstanding growth, over 8% per year, maintaining the highest growth rate in the region.
In the next 10 years, air traffic volume in Vietnam is expected to double, reaching more than 75 million passengers per year.
Exploiting new aircraft helps countries immediately improve connectivity as well as economic growth. It is estimated that airlines across Southeast Asia will need 4,720 new aircraft over the next 20 years, with one-way aircraft accounting for 80% of the total number of aircraft expected to be delivered.
The 737 Max flight line is a suitable choice to develop rapidly growing domestic and regional routes such as Can Tho, Hue, Hai Phong, Da Lat, Phu Quoc and Nha Trang. With stable and efficient operation, 737 Max brings flexibility in operations, while significantly increasing profits on the flight network for airlines. In particular, this aircraft line also helps reduce emissions and carbon emissions by up to 20% compared to previous lines.
To meet the demand for long-haul flights, wide-body aircraft such as the 787 Dreamliner and 777X are expected to account for about a fifth of the total number of aircraft delivered in Southeast Asia over the next 20 years.
Thanks to the ability to connect Vietnam with Europe and North America, the outstanding performance 787 Dreamliner not only helps open up new routes, bringing profits to airlines, but also helps passengers experience a smooth flight journey.
The Asia-Pacific region will account for about a third of the total number of cargo aircraft delivered globally by 2043. Of which, Southeast Asia is expected to need more than 120 new and converted cargo aircraft during this period.
As the market leader in cargo aircraft manufacturing, Boeing currently contributes more than 90% of the world's cargo transport capacity, including newly manufactured aircraft and converted aircraft. The 777-8 Freighter will be the largest, most powerful, and most fuel-efficient twin- engine aircraft in the world. This aircraft not only has the largest payload but also has the lowest fuel consumption, emissions and operating costs per ton compared to current large cargo aircraft.
Forecasts show that the growth in demand for aircraft will lead to a significant increase in the demand for human resources in the aviation industry, including pilots, engineers and ground staff, opening up many job opportunities in both Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Airlines in the region are expected to need to recruit and train 234,000 new personnel, including pilots, maintenance technicians and attendants, more than three times the current aviation workforce in the region.
In 1995, Vietnam Airlines leased 3 Boeing 767-300ER aircraft (expanded flight range). The first trade transaction between Vietnam and the United States.
To date, Vietnam Airlines is operating a modern Boeing fleet of 11 787-9 and 6 787-10. Vietnam Airlines has signed a proposal to buy 50 Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
VietJet has booked 200 737 Max aircraft to serve its expansion plan in Asia.
