The conference "Anti-counterfeit goods, goods violating intellectual property rights, trade fraud in the new situation" was recently held by the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods (Steering Committee 389) on July 7.
Notably, at the conference, representative of the Steering Committee 389 of Da Nang City, Mr. Pham Ngoc Son - Head of the Market Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City) - said that in the first 6 months of 2025, the Steering Committee inspected 918 cases and handled 867 cases with a total amount of budget revenue of more than 129 billion VND, of which 17 cases/19 subjects were prosecuted.
During the peak month (from May 15 to June 15), the market management force alone submitted to the Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee to issue 8 Penalty Decisions, most of which were fined over 100 million VND/violating.
According to Mr. Son, with the characteristics of a tourist city, in recent times, there have been some points of sale in Da Nang where there have been cases of selling products that violate the intellectual property rights of famous brands.
In particular, Da Nang City also has the form of "ledging tours" disguised as a way to check and sell counterfeit goods to tourists.
When the authorities inspected, a series of stores had closed their frontages but still secretly sold goods in the form of the above "tour guide".

Mr. Son cited that recently, market management forces had to act as tour guides to investigate the above incident.
There are even stores on the first floor that are closed but on the second floor, they sell a variety of goods to international groups.
In this case, the authorities have handled and submitted to the Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee for sanctions, these are new ways to deal with counterfeit and smuggled goods sellers.
In the coming time, the Da Nang Market Management Department will build an AI application to distinguish between fake and genuine goods, thereby applying digital technology to detect and handle violations.
According to the National Steering Committee 389, in the first 6 months of 2025, functional forces nationwide inspected and handled 50,419 cases related to smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, down 21.45% over the same period.
Of which, there were more than 10.8 thousand cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods (up 79.34% over the same period); more than 36,3 thousand cases of trade fraud and tax fraud (down 34.14% over the same period); nearly 3.3 thousand cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations (up 8.64% over the same period).
