On August 27, the leaders of the People's Committee of Can Tho City had a meeting and working with the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group on the project "Petrovietnam Eco-energy Industrial Center (PVI)".

According to information from PVI, the project aims to expand products, develop the gas - electricity value chain, take advantage of the advantages of Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region in biomass, renewable energy and agricultural products to produce green, circular products. The project is also expected to expand to the fields of agriculture and technical services in accordance with the development planning of Can Tho City.
In which, the center will form 3 main functional groups: Clean energy group. Green fertilizer and chemical industry group. Agricultural products, logistics, other services.

According to PVI representative, this is a model of a center for electricity, green chemicals and high-tech services, associated with the agricultural strengths of the whole region, formed in the direction of opening the connection of the center of Ca Mau area with Can Tho city. Priority locations include O Mon (electricity, logistics, bio-methanol center), Nam Song Hau (rec regenerative energy and green ammonia) and industrial gas development areas, agricultural processing, and biomass collection centers.
Regarding the investment roadmap, by 2030, it will invest about 3.4 billion USD, focusing on power plant projects and bio-methanol production, bringing in revenue of about 2.3 billion USD/year. In the 2031-2035 period, an additional 661 million USD will be added to the fields of SAF, biochemicals, food CO2 and high-tech agriculture, with expected revenue reaching 2.5 billion USD/year. By 2050, the total estimated investment capital will reach more than 14.9 billion USD, strongly developing wind power, solar power, green ammonia, and CO2 recovery, bringing revenue to 5.6 billion USD/year.
The project is expected to form a supply chain of green hydrogen, green am ammonia, bi khoi and carbon credits, reducing 18.5 million tons of CO2, contributing about 2% to the goal of reducing emissions in the energy sector, towards Net Zero. In addition, this plan will create about 100,000 jobs, promote labor restructuring, increase budgets, develop social infrastructure, ensure on-site energy security, making Can Tho a new growth pole of the Mekong Delta.

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau emphasized that the city is very interested in the proposal to study the formation of the Ecological Energy Industrial Center. This is considered a great opportunity for Can Tho to develop the energy industry associated with a modern ecological model. Mr. Lau affirmed that the city will accompany and completely agree with the proposal to study this project.
Regarding the implementation progress, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested units to urgently implement, complete the study and report to the city leaders by September 15 at the latest. During the research process, it is necessary to closely coordinate with relevant departments and branches to promptly exchange information, ensure that the project is of high quality, approved by competent authorities and avoid any adjustments that slow down progress. At the same time, the contents beyond the city's authority need to be calculated and reported promptly to avoid problems in implementation.
