On July 21, the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City held a conference to review the Industry and Trade sector for the first 6 months of the year and deploy tasks for the last 6 months of 2025.
According to the report, in the first 6 months of the year, industrial production continued to recover positively, especially in the processing and manufacturing sector with a number of key industries such as food processing - food, consumer goods production, pharmaceuticals, construction materials.
The industrial production value reached VND132,800 billion, equivalent to USD5,312 million. There are 1,933 industrial production enterprises in the area, creating stable jobs for about 126,000 workers. Can Tho City's Industrial Production Index (IPP) grew by over 8% over the same period.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the total retail sales of goods and services in the city is estimated at VND 170,528 billion, equivalent to USD 6,821 million, up 17.7% over the same period.
Results of the peak month of fighting to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights in the city, from May 15 to June 15, 2025, implementing Official Dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg, Steering Committee 389 of the city, the City People's Committee Working Group inspected and examined 795 cases. Of which, 694 cases were not violated, 81 cases were violated (55 cases have been handled), 20 cases are being verified and supplemented. The total amount of fines paid to the state budget is more than 1.2 billion VND, the value of violating goods is more than 19 billion VND.
The main violating items are food, medicine, functional foods, cosmetics, frozen seafood, fertilizers, liquefied petroleum gas, clothes, handbags, and some other goods.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City - said that after more than 20 days of operation of the two-level government, the city's Industry and Trade sector has made many efforts to stabilize the organization and start operating, achieving initial positive results.
In the coming time, the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade requested departments to urgently review; effectively implement administrative procedure reform, ensure a smooth system, not affecting the operations of people and businesses; Focus on ensuring essential goods, connecting, reviewing OCOP products in the area; Actively support the Investor of the AeonMall Trade and Service Center project in Can Tho for contents related to the industry sector...
Notably, regarding the fight against and repelling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights in the area, the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade requested the market management department to actively support genuine business units; strengthen market inspection and control, combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, prevent spearhead and hoarding goods to unreasonably increase prices; stabilize the market, ensure the supply of essential goods to serve the people.
