Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) recorded that the electricity consumption capacity in the whole city had reached the highest level ever, reaching 5,992 MW at 1:44 p.m. on August 4, 2025.
According to EVNHANOI, at 1:42 p.m. on July 30, 2025, the peak capacity (Pmax) of the whole city reached 5,608.6 MW - an increase of about 6.6% over the peak in the same period in 2024, and is the highest figure ever recorded in the history of the capital's power grid operation.
However, this record was quickly surpassed in less than a week.
According to the power outage schedule announced by Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI), on August 5, some areas in communes and wards such as Kim Lien, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, Thanh Xuan, Khuong Dinh, Yen Nghia, Phu Luong, Kien Hung... are expected to temporarily suspend power supply for a certain period of time.
In the list, the facilities expected to have power outages mainly include a number of households, businesses... In particular, some households in the city's central wards have power outages, ranging from house number 146 to house number 202 Khuong Thuong street, lane 554 Truong Chinh (Kim Lien ward) expected to have power outages from 8:00 to 16:00.
Or in Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward, house number 2 to 16, lane 222 Le Duan, house number B5, lane 16/222 Le Duan, the power will be cut off from 8:00 to 16:00. A part of Trung Van Cooperative in Dai Mo Ward is also in the plan to cut off power on August 5 from 6am to 10am.
Or part of Do Nghia urban area (Yen Nghia ward) is expected to have a power outage from 8:00 to 12:00. In Kien Hung ward, TT 18, 19 of Van Phu new urban area are also expected to have power outages from 6am to 12pm.

At 1:44 p.m. on August 4, 2025, consumption capacity continued to set a new peak, reaching 5,992 MW, equivalent to an increase of approximately 14% compared to the peak capacity in 2024.
This sudden increase reflects the skyrocketing demand for electricity due to prolonged hot weather, especially in households using air conditioners, fans and cooling equipment day and night.
Outdoor temperatures are constantly maintained at 37-39°C, causing equipment such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and electrical fans to operate more and longer to maintain efficiency. This leads to increased electricity consumption even though the usage period has not changed.
Prolonged heat waves pose a potential risk of power grid failure due to many electrical equipment operating outdoors in high-term environments; some power lines and transformer stations are overloaded at certain times.
EVNHANOI recommends that customers, offices and production places join hands to use electricity economically and efficiently, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment and limit the use of high-capacity equipment during peak hours of electricity consumption from 12:00 ÷ 15:00 and from 22:00 ÷ 24:00 daily.
At the same time, pay attention to reasonable use of air conditioners (reserved at 26°C or higher, used in combination with fans). In addition, using devices with energy-saving labels, regular maintenance air conditioners, and refrigerators are also effective ways to reduce electricity consumption.
EVNHANOI also recommends that people should proactively monitor their family's electricity consumption every day through EVNHANOI's customer care ecosystem such as EVNHANOI App or evnhanoi.vn website.
Through these platforms, customers can check metric indicators, compare consumption levels between periods and especially set warning thresholds to receive timely information when electricity output exceeds the permitted threshold. This is an effective solution for people to adjust their electricity usage behavior from the beginning, instead of waiting until the end of the month to " startled" with the bill.
The economical use of electricity not only brings direct economic benefits to each household but also helps protect the power system, reduce the risk of local overload and ensure stable power supply for the whole city during hot peak days.
