On September 26, 2025, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien held talks with Comrade Lam Vu, Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, China within the framework of the working delegation in Vietnam to continue implementing the common perception of the two countries' senior leaders on expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien assessed the Secretary's visit to Vietnam and the success of the Vietnam - China - China Trade Promotion - Investment and Connectivity Conference (Son Dong) organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in coordination with Son Dong province on the afternoon of September 25, 2025, showing great demand, desire and potential, and room for cooperation between Son Dong and Vietnam.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary Lam Vu affirmed that Son Dong always attaches special importance to economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam, hoping to take this meeting as an opportunity to effectively implement the common perception of the two countries' senior leaders, jointly enhance exchanges and connections; promote key cooperation items to be substantial.
In order to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Son Dong, Son Dong sides proposed that the two sides continue to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on economic and trade cooperation, promoting key cooperation items to be substantial; Promoting industrial cooperation, focusing on key areas such as rubber tires, textiles, new energy, digital economy, equipment manufacturing, etc.
At the same time, actively build and implement a number of new cooperation projects; expand bilateral trade scale through delegation exchanges, exhibition cooperation, cross-border e-commerce, bringing more and more high-quality products into each other's markets.
Responding to comrade Lam Vu's opinion, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly agreed with Son Dong's proposals. The trade scale between Shandong and Vietnam in 2024 will only reach 11.6 billion USD and account for about 4.5% of the total trade turnover between Vietnam and China, not commensurate with the market scale and high potential for complementary cooperation between the two sides.
Therefore, the two sides need to continue to promote a number of contents such as: effectively implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on enhancing cooperation in the fields of economy and trade between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Government of Shandong province, China signed in August 2024; promoting Shandong province's enterprises to strengthen investment cooperation and develop a supply chain for the production of products on the list of industrial products supported for development in Vietnam; expanding bilateral trade scale through trade promotion activities, fairs, exhibitions, product introductions...
On this occasion, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien made a number of proposals to further promote the role of Son Dong province in Vietnam - China economic and trade cooperation such as increasing imports of goods with Vietnam's strengths. Especially agricultural products and sharing experiences in processing and exporting agricultural products, logistics cooperation; creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to promote and build brands in the Chinese market, especially in large distribution systems in Son Dong.
Affirming the purpose of this visit to Vietnam to implement the directives and orientations to promote economic and trade cooperation of the two countries' senior leaders, comrade Lam Vu expressed his high agreement with the opinions of Minister Nguyen Hong Dien on strengthening economic - trade and investment cooperation between the two sides.
Son Dong province is ready to encourage businesses to import high-quality agricultural and aquatic products of Vietnam to meet the great demand of the locality. At the same time, the two sides can study and build Vietnamese distribution centers in Son Dong, first in Thanh Dao and Te Nam cities. Son Dong is also ready to coordinate with Vietnam to organize trade promotion programs, seeking cooperation opportunities for Vietnamese agencies and enterprises in Son Dong.
After the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Secretary Lam Vu witnessed the "C rotating tasks for the 2025-2027 period" Award Ceremony to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy and trade between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the People's Government of Son Dong province, China".
