Dak Lak - The local agricultural sector needs to build a sustainable durian ecosystem to improve the value of the industry.

Within the framework of the Dak Lak Durian Festival 2026, on August 16, Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee organized the Forum "Connecting Durian Production and Consumption - Sustainable Durian Ecosystem".

The forum focuses on identifying bottlenecks in production, quality control, processing, logistics and exports; and at the same time finding solutions to reorganize the industry towards improving value and sustainable development.

Dak Lak currently has about 44,000 hectares of durian, with production in 2026 expected to reach about 500,000 tons. However, from building raw material areas, quality control, purchasing, processing to export, a close link has not yet been formed.

Meanwhile, import markets are increasingly placing high requirements, requiring the industry to be reorganized in the direction of enhancing the responsibility of stakeholders in the value chain.

Mr. Le Minh Hoan, former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), said that Dak Lak needs to shift from building a "trade chain" to developing an "industry ecosystem", with the participation of farmers, cooperatives, businesses, scientists, market experts, banks, insurance and the government.

According to Mr. Hoan, the government plays a connecting role, leading stakeholders together towards the goal of building brands and sustainable development of the durian industry.

Along with reorganizing production, deep processing and market diversification, it is identified as an important direction to improve the value of the industry.

To make the durian industry ecosystem operate effectively, delegates proposed that Dak Lak continue to standardize raw material areas; strictly control planting area codes, packaging facility codes, traceability, cold storage and logistics; promote data digitization, apply technology in production monitoring, electronic logs and QR code traceability.

Speaking at the forum, Mr. Vo Van Hung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said that the urgent task of Dak Lak and durian industry entities is to effectively implement Resolution No. 36 of the Government on managing planting area codes; shifting from pre-inspection to post-inspection, linking decentralization with management responsibility.

We propose a common spirit of supporting people, businesses and organizations. Reducing pre-inspection and increasing post-inspection does not mean reducing management responsibility, but must strengthen supervision and traceability to ensure product quality and meet the increasing requirements of the market," Mr. Vo Van Hung emphasized.

Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Do Huu Huy requested departments, branches, and localities to raise the responsibility of heads, drastically remove bottlenecks, simplify administrative procedures, absolutely not let legal barriers miss investment opportunities for businesses; strictly handle manifestations of avoidance and shirking responsibility.

To find solutions for the sustainable development of the durian industry, at the forum, experts, scientists, businesses and representatives of stakeholders in the industry chain are focusing on exchanging views on requirements for growing areas, packaging facilities, import markets, quality management and traceability.
