Discovering a leaked power line, causing power outages
Recently, many families in Hanoi, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An... were surprised when their electricity bills for August skyrocketed. Many people wonder that because the weather is cool in August, many areas have widespread power outages, from 2-3 days due to flood water, so the use of electrical equipment such as air conditioners and fans is reduced, but the electricity bill is still high.
In a press release, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) cited the case of a customer named Van pig posted on social media - reflecting a sudden increase in family electricity bills.
After receiving the data, the power unit sent staff to check and discovered that the line from the meter to the home had leaked due to the impact of storms and floods. The incident was handled immediately.
EVN recommends that when there are questions about invoices, people should contact the Customer Care Center, provide an electricity code for 24/7 support. If a problem is detected, the power unit will check and fix it promptly.
Tuyen Quang Provincial Power Company (PC Tuyen Quang) recently also informed about some cases reflecting high electricity bills, and said that it has coordinated with authorities to conduct inspections and reviews of each specific case.
In the case of Mr. Dam Van Thuong (Trung Son commune), the family's electricity bill in August increased by more than 1.2 million VND compared to the previous month. Immediately upon receiving the proposal, the Yen Son Power Management Team sent staff to inspect.
Through the review, the line was discovered to be leaking electricity, causing power loss, causing the recorded increase in electricity output. The electricity officer has further advised the family on how to control the use of electrical equipment, and at the same time paid attention to safety factors such as leakage, contact with power lines and electrical equipment during use.

Mr. Bui Minh Dai - Deputy Director of Tuyen Quang Power Company said that to minimize questions about electricity bills before, during and after the peak summer months, PC Tuyen Quang has directed regional power management teams to proactively review and check metric indicators for customers with sudden increases in output compared to the previous month, and at the same time be ready to coordinate with customers to determine the cause.
The weather in the North is not as "easy to bear" as expected
The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) also shared the reasons for the increase in electricity bills of many households in August.
EVNNPC said that in August 2025, the weather in the North will not be as "easy" as many people expected, but will continue to experience prolonged heat, many places will have temperatures exceeding 39 degrees Celsius, and will be hot all day and night.
In that context, the demand for air conditioners, fans and cooling equipment of people and businesses has increased sharply, causing electricity loads to continuously set new records in 17 provinces and cities managed by EVNNPC (excluding Hanoi).
At its peak, at 10:30 p.m. on August 4, the Northern Power System recorded a maximum capacity of 18,983.9 MW, commercial power output of 393.09 million kWh - the highest ever.
Compared to the old record on July 18 (18.931 MW and 389.39 million kWh), the capacity increased by 52.9 MW (equivalent to an increase of 0.28%), the output increased by 3.7 million kWh (equivalent to an increase of 0.95%).
From the beginning of June to the beginning of August, the peak capacity in the North has increased by nearly 900 MW. This reflects huge pressure on the power system during the peak of hot weather. While the load has increased sharply due to the heat, the electricity industry has to simultaneously strive to cope with the storm.
According to the Northern Power Corporation, the main reason for the increase in electricity bills in August was the demand for cooling electricity much higher than in normal months, the storm factor was only a local impact.
