Farmers struggled to find output
Since the Lunar New Year until now, the price of purple onion in Duyen Hai town, Tra Vinh province has had a deep reduction, making it difficult for farmers here to consume.
With decades with the profession of growing purple onion, Mr. Pham Van Trung in Truong Long Hoa commune, Duyen Hai town, said that the price of purple onion on the market has never been low as it is today.
According to Mr. Trung, the current price of purple onion only ranges from 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg back, down more than half of the average price in previous years. The whole year took care of each onions, now do not know how to cover the cost. It feels like every effort pouring the river.
"I hope the local authorities will help the households planting purple onion here to find a new direction, so that they do not have to depend too much on the erratic fluctuations of market prices anymore," Trung added.

Also in the same situation, Mr. Nguyen Van Bi, a farmer in Duyen Hai town, Tra Vinh province, said that not only the price of purple onion on the market decreased in the market, but the situation of bacterial and rotten fungus on leaves is also increasingly popular and seriously affecting the growing onions.
According to Bi, bacteria, rotten leaves are issues that many farmers are facing. If not treated promptly, they will damage the onion tree, reduce productivity and product quality.
"It expects the local government to organize advanced cultivation techniques training courses to help farmers here improve the quality of purple onions, stabilize output and reduce depending on the market price," Mr. Nguyen Van Bi added.
Create conditions for purple onion farmers
Talking to labor, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong - Vice Chairman of Truong Long Hoa Commune People's Committee, Duyen Hai Town - said that up to the present time, the harvested onion reached about 70-80%. With beautiful shallots, farmers sell for more than 20,000 VND/kg, the remaining types are less than 20,000 VND/kg.
Ms. Cao Thi Hong Gam - Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Duyen Hai Town, Tra Vinh Province - Information, the whole town currently has about 456 hectares of purple onion growing area, mainly concentrated in Truong Long Hoa commune.
According to Hong Gam, the price of purple onions on the market is currently very low, this causes serious damage to the profit of the farmer.
Facing this situation, local authorities have been coordinating with relevant units to find effective consumption solutions, supporting people to overcome difficulties and stabilize the output for the product.

Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has collected market information, connecting with companies to support people to find output.
"The town has also proposed the province to open a class of science and technology transfer to improve production and limit damage to farmers so that they can stick with the profession in the next cases," Hong Gam added.
