Gia Lai opens the door to welcome investors to exploit potential

THANH TUẤN |

With vast, fertile land, deep seaports, synchronous transportation systems, and open mechanisms for governments, Gia Lai is opening the door to welcoming dedicated investors with potential to exploit the strengths of agriculture, tourism and deep processing industry.

With an area of over 21,000km2 and a population of 3.5 million people, the West of Gia Lai possesses great potential for agriculture, in line with the specialized farming model. Gia Lai's main export products including coffee, rubber, cassava, pepper, wood products, bananas, passion fruit... are present in about 50 countries. Some industries meet high quality requirements in demanding markets such as the US, Europe, and Japan. A typical example is coffee, with an average export turnover of 300 million USD/year.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - said: "For the eastern area of Gia Lai province, we orient strongly to develop industry, services and logistics, take advantage of coastal advantages and connect infrastructure. As for the western region, the development orientation focuses on high-tech agriculture, renewable energy and the border gate economy".

The province hopes for the participation of investors to develop industry and large-scale specialized areas for key agricultural products such as sugarcane, high-tech dairy cows, coffee, pepper, vegetables, medicinal herbs and modern livestock.

Currently, Gia Lai has more than 30 participating enterprises, standing out with prestigious names such as Vinh Hiep, Hoa Trang, Tin Thanh Dat. The province also attracts many large enterprises in the agricultural processing sector such as Hung Son, DOVECO, Nafoods... to serve fruit exports. The European market accounts for about 60% of total exports, Asia accounts for 30%, the rest belongs to other markets.

Gia Lai province currently has about 256,000 hectares of crops meeting VietGAP, GlobalGAP, Rainforest and Organic standards, creating a sustainable source of raw materials for the processing and exporting industry.

Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company - shared: In Gia Lai, we have developed more than 3,000 hectares of bananas and 300 hectares of durian to meet GlobalG.A.P international standards. The pig farm system has a capacity of 500,000 pigs, applying a closed-ring model, using bananas as feed. Mr. Duc suggested that procedures need to be quick and policies are clear so that investors can confidently implement.

The representative of FPT enterprise in Gia Lai also proposed that the province should establish an Innovation Zone in Quy Nhon, becoming a place to test specific mechanisms and policies for artificial intelligence, open data, new energy and marine technology. The province needs to pay attention to developing the coastal technology startup ecosystem, linking universities with research institutes, businesses and international partners.

To meet economic growth, Gia Lai has invested in synchronous transport infrastructure to facilitate agricultural exports. In particular, the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway (125km) expected to start construction in October 2025 will become a vital axis, connecting industrial parks, seaports, border gates, airports, and expanding domestic and international agricultural trade.
