Price stability, promotions
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huynh - Deputy General Director of Can Tho General Trading Joint Stock Company - informed that from mid-February 2025 to mid-March 2025, the price of live pigs has increased dramatically from 65,000 - 82,000 VND/kg. This has affected consumer demand and purchasing power.

Accordingly, in addition to ensuring an abundant source of goods to supply restaurants, eateries, schools, supermarket systems in Can Tho and some provinces in the Mekong Delta, Can Tho General Trading Joint Stock Company also stabilizes the market. Commercial pork products after processing and distribution are consumed by the company at prices 5 - 10% lower than the market.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Luong - Director of LOTTE Mart Can Tho Supermarket - said that the impact of African swine fever has increased the price of fresh pork and reduced domestic demand. All fresh pork products at the supermarket are increasing by 8 - 10% compared to last year.
Grasping that trend, the unit has worked with suppliers to ensure supply as well as implement many promotional programs to stabilize prices for customers shopping at supermarkets.
"The supermarket is cooperating with many suppliers to store goods, ensure supply and continue to stabilize prices for pork products. Currently, the supermarket has a discount program of 10 - 15% for all meat products. Other freshfood products such as fish, seafood, etc. are also being stabilized by the supermarket, Mr. Luong shared.
Tightening food safety and hygiene
Along with implementing price stabilization programs, Ms. Huynh said that the company also pays special attention to food safety and hygiene management, in order to bring quality products to consumers.
"We closely monitor the supply from farms and fields of breeds, care processes as well as feed used in livestock farming. All must ensure food safety and hygiene standards. During the import process, the company has its own veterinary team to supervise the process and check the quality, said Ms. Huynh.
At LOTTE Mart Can Tho supermarket, food safety and hygiene work is also strictly implemented. Before choosing a supplier, the supermarket evaluates the input quality.
The products imported and consumed at the supermarket have all been quarantined as well as have documents related to food safety and hygiene. The supermarket also has its own quality inspection team (QA) to collect samples periodically, ensuring product quality when it reaches customers.
In the report on the results of the work in the first quarter of 2025 and the key plan for the second quarter of 2025 of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, pork prices increased contractually compared to previous years. This is the highest price increase in the past 3 years.
In the coming time, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine will have solutions to stabilize pig farming, control the market, limit the impact of fluctuations in pork prices to the point of increasing CPI and sustainably developing the animal husbandry - veterinary industry.
