Recorded at some traditional markets in Can Tho city such as Tan An, Xuan Khanh, O Mon... prices of fresh pork products have stagnated after a period of strong increases.
According to the survey, pork thighs cost from 110,000 - 130,000 VND/kg, pork belly is 120,000 - 140,000 VND/kg, lean and lean meat ranges from 140,000 - 160,000 VND/kg, pork belly is only from 160,000 - 180,000 VND/kg, young ribs are at 190,000 - 210,000 VND/kg...
According to consumers, pork prices at the present time are still high compared to normal. To avoid affecting spending, they have to cut down on meat consumption or find alternative foods at lower prices.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue Chi (O Mon District, Can Tho City) said that pork is a familiar food in her family's family's family's family meal. Since the price of pork tends to increase and the peak is from the beginning of March until now, her family has cut down on the amount of pork consumed.
"Before, I took 100,000 VND to the market to buy enough meat for a family of 4 to eat comfortably in 1 day. Since the price of pork increased, especially in early March, the family has only had enough to eat in the morning. To save money, I only buy enough meat for my children, and my wife and I eat fish, eggs... instead," said Ms. Chi.
The rapid increase in pork prices has also significantly affected the living expenses of Mr. Le Thanh Tan's family (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city).
"As soon as the price of the pigs increased, the food stores also quickly increased. The children's breakfast expenses also increased from there. Most notably are still the main meals. If before, each market only cost about 150,000 VND for meat and vegetables, now that amount must be up to 180,000 - 200,000 VND, Mr. Tan shared.
This forced Mr. Tan to cut unnecessary expenses to avoid affecting the family economy.
"Pork is a favorite food for all members. If the amount of meat is cut down, there will not be enough portions. Therefore, my wife and I have limited coffee and party sessions to make up for the deficit caused by escalating pork prices. I just hope the price of pork will soon stabilize because this is an essential item, Mr. Tan shared.
Going to the market these days, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) cannot help but get bored when the price of pork is still high. Previously, Ms. Trang's family ate pork 4 - 5 days/week, but now there are only 2-3 days left.
The increase in pork prices forced her to change her menu to suit her domestic spending: Pork prices tend to stand still after a series of consecutive increases, but are generally still high. While waiting for the pork price to stabilize again, I chose fish, chicken, duck to replace them.
With the high price of live pigs, many consumers hope that the locality and the authorities will soon take measures to stabilize the market so as not to affect the family economy.
