World gasoline and oil prices continued to fluctuate very strongly. In the trading session on April 30, at the beginning of the morning session, oil prices fluctuated in opposite directions when WTI oil increased while Brent oil turned down. However, not long after that, both of these commodities simultaneously surged sharply before weakening again towards the end of the session.
In the April 30 session, Brent oil prices at one point jumped to $126.41/barrel, the highest since March 9, 2022, but then fell $4.02/barrel, closing at $114.01/barrel.
WTI oil closed down 1.81 USD/barrel, to 105.07 USD/barrel. Previously, this commodity had touched 110.93 USD/barrel, the highest level since April 7.
Thus, closing yesterday's trading session (April 30), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 1.69% and 3.41% respectively.
In this morning's trading session, world oil prices continued to fluctuate significantly. At 6:10 am on May 1 (Vietnam time), WTI oil prices traded around 105.8 USD/barrel, down 1.1 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of about 1% compared to the same time last session. Meanwhile, Brent oil slightly increased by 0.9%, to 111.5 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, the adjustment of oil prices this time is not associated with any separate developments but mainly reflects the extremely volatile state of the market since the outbreak of the conflict between the US - Israel and Iran.
In addition to geopolitical tensions causing investor sentiment to continuously reverse, some experts also believe that oil prices often fluctuate strongly in the period close to the contract expiration date.
In addition, the weakening of the USD on Thursday also created additional pressure on the energy market. The Japanese Yen rose sharply by 3% - the largest daily increase in more than 3 years - after Tokyo officials signaled that they could intervene to support the domestic currency and stabilize financial markets. The rise of the Yen pulled the USD down, heading towards its sharpest one-day decline against the Japanese currency since August last year, thereby contributing to the cooling of oil prices towards the end of the session.
