World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices are on a strong downward trend. At the end of yesterday's trading session (April 14), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 7.87% and 4.6% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued the downward trend. At 7:50 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 90.25 USD/barrel, down 1.03 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.13%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 91.28 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 92.28 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 94.25 USD/barrel, down 0.88 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.93%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 95.13 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 95.14 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, after a period of hot increase, market sentiment has begun to adjust, leading to a technically "cooling down" trend. Expectations for positive signals from diplomatic efforts also contribute to making the previous strong fluctuation gradually reflected in the price.
However, the current downward trend does not fully reflect the current supply situation. The market is partly ignoring the amount of crude oil that cannot be circulated due to disruptions in the Middle East region.
A report by the International Energy Agency shows that attacks targeting energy infrastructure and Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz have caused unprecedented supply disruptions, with a shortage of up to 10.1 million barrels/day in March. This is considered a major shock to the global energy market.
The IEA emphasized that restoring flow through the Strait of Hormuz remains a key factor in reducing pressure on supply, energy prices and global economic prospects.
In that context, fuel costs in many countries increased sharply after the US, Israel - Iran conflict broke out, forcing consumers to tighten spending. Many governments also had to implement emergency support measures, while the crude oil export plans of major producing countries were significantly affected.
In the US, gasoline and diesel prices rose to their highest level since mid-2022, causing consumers to cut spending. Similar developments were also recorded in many major economies, increasing inflationary pressure and hindering the recovery of the global economy.
