World oil prices today
World oil prices simultaneously decreased. At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI oil price was at 99.53 USD/barrel, down 2.38 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 2.34%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 101.91 USD/barrel, and opened the weekend session at 101.05 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 103.19 USD/barrel, down 1.63 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 1.56%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 104.82 USD/barrel, and opened the weekend session at 104.10 USD/barrel.
World oil prices continued to fall sharply after China proposed that Iran use its influence to restrain Houthi forces in Yemen in operations in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. This move comes after Saudi Arabia asked Beijing to support de-escalating tensions in the region.
However, the prospects of the oil market in the coming months still contain many unpredictable factors.
According to preliminary ship tracking data, only 4 cargo ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on September 17, down from 6 ships the day before and significantly lower than the average.
The US and Iran have not conducted any further peace talks since the temporary agreement collapsed in June 2026. It is expected that the conflict situation in the region will be discussed at the United Nations General Assembly next week.
