On the afternoon of June 18, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee held a meeting on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2026).
Quickly exchanging about some outstanding results in the first 6 months of 2026, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee - said: The GRDP growth rate in the first 6 months is estimated to reach 9.3%. Economic indicators all have many positive signs, of which the industrial production index is estimated to reach 11.5%.
The tourism sector had breakthrough growth with the total number of tourists estimated at 6.75 million, reaching 59.9% of the plan.
The outstanding highlight is that state budget revenue in the area is estimated at 12,657 billion VND, equal to 53.8% compared to the plan, an increase of 40.5% compared to the same period and a record high ever (including mergers).
In addition, Lao Cai province disbursed the public investment capital plan for the first 6 months of 2026, reaching over 40% of the plan, belonging to the group of localities with quite good disbursement rates in the country.
Regarding culture - society and social security: The province has successfully organized the Launching Ceremony of periodic health check-ups and free screening for people, as of June 15, the whole province has had 706,430 people undergoing periodic health check-ups or free screening, reaching 40.3% of the population.
Regarding national defense, security and foreign affairs: Promulgating and effectively implementing Resolution No. 51, to date, 32/99 communes have achieved the standard of "communes and wards without drugs". The political security and social order and safety situation in the province has been maintained stably.
Lao Cai's strategic goal in the coming period is to strive for an economic growth rate of 10% or more, realizing the aspiration to become a growth pole, an economic trade connection center between Vietnam, ASEAN and the Southwest China region in the direction of "Green, harmonious, identity, happiness".
To accompany that aspiration, I propose that press agencies always be pioneers on the ideological front. It is necessary to accelerate the digital transformation strategy, apply AI and develop multi-platform to master information and effectively orient public opinion," Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh shared.
The Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee also assigned departments, branches, and localities to consider the press as a strategic companion and an objective criticism channel. Strictly implement speaking discipline; proactively and thoroughly handle issues reflected by the press with the spirit of not avoiding or shirking responsibility.
