In recent years, Hai Duong province has made efforts to maintain agricultural land areas, minimizing the situation of abandoned fields with many practical policies and the drastic participation of grassroots authorities. From increasing rice prices in the market, mechanizing agriculture, to mobilizing land accumulation and reviving low-lying areas, many creative models have contributed to reviving abandoned fields, creating stable livelihoods for farmers.
In Nam Sach district - one of the leading localities, the area of abandoned land has decreased significantly in the past 2 years. Mr. Mac Van Tuan - Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment - said that the increase in rice prices from 10,000-12,000 VND/kg for high-quality rice varieties has given people more confidence.
Along with that, the locality has supported people in Mechanizing, applying drones in cultivation, organizing synchronous rat fishing teams... which have helped reduce production costs and improve economic efficiency.
Many households have not allowed their abandoned fields to be wasted, typically the case of Mr. Nguyen Toan Bao - a young farmer in Cong Hoa commune (Nam Sach district, Hai Duong province). Realizing that dozens of plots of fields behind his house were abandoned, Mr. Bao boldly borrowed and renovated them for cultivation.

After nearly 10 years of persistently "saving" the abandoned fields, he invested in rebuilding the entire bank, irrigation system, and putting machinery in the fields. Although he initially encountered many hardships, now, he and his wife have a stable source of income from the fields that were once considered dead land.
Mr. Bao's work not only helps his family stabilize the economy but also contributes to protecting land resources, spreading the spirit of land protection to rural areas.
Not only Nam Sach, Kim Thanh district also recorded positive signals. According to the district Department of Agriculture and Environment, the area of abandoned fields from 15-20 hectares in 2021-2022 has decreased to only 1-2 hectares in 2024, mainly areas waiting for project implementation.
In Dai Duc, Ngu Phuc, Kim Anh, Co Dung communes... large model fields are formed to help mechanize production, save costs and increase productivity.
Tu Ky district also recorded a major change when 15/23 communes and towns have accumulated land with a scale of 3 hectares or more. With a total area of over 485 hectares, concentrated production has minimized the area of abandoned land.
The above results show that reducing abandoned land in Hai Duong is not due to a single solution but thanks to the synchronous coordination of price policies, production infrastructure, automation, support from the government, and especially the proactive role of the people.
Farmers like Mr. Nguyen Toan Bao are proving that, when there is faith and determination, "warm fields" are not inevitable fate but can become a golden field.
