After high tide, Can Tho traders take advantage of selling to make up for losses

Can Tho - As the high tide recedes, street vendors at night are taking advantage of the opportunity to sell off lost goods due to sluggish sales caused by the high tide of the last full moon of September.

The impact of the high tide on the 15th day of the 9th lunar month caused water to flood the streets and enter houses, disrupting the lives of people in Can Tho City and causing businesses to be deserted due to lack of customers.

According to the reporter's records at Ninh Kieu wharf area, Can Tho city, traders took advantage of the receding tide to import more goods, selling to make up for losses on days with few customers.

Ms. Thanh Loan - a vendor selling snacks and drinks in the Ninh Kieu wharf area, Can Tho City - said: "For several days when the tide was high, there was not a single customer. I had to throw away all the processed food because it was not selling well, so I lost a lot of money. Normally, I would sell until 8:00 p.m. and then I would pack up at 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. to make some money to make up for the previous losses."

Meanwhile, at Ninh Kieu night market, although the lights have been turned back on after a temporary shutdown, the business of Ms. Truong Thi Lan - a children's toy trader in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city, is not very promising after the impact of bad weather.

Ms. Lan said: Can Tho is in the rainy season, the weather is unpredictable, sometimes it rains just after setting up the stalls, and when the stalls are quickly set up, the rain is gone, so sometimes customers are reluctant to go out. Sometimes they sell 10-20 customers a day, on weekends it increases, but due to thunderstorms and high tides, there are fewer customers.

In the last months of the year, Ms. Lan hopes that business will improve and the weather will be favorable for business.

"Thanks to the night market, where tourists and locals come to visit and shop, I have some income. I hope that from now until the end of the year, the weather will be stable and there will be more tourists so that business will be more prosperous," said Ms. Lan.
