The launch of Sun Group's Sun PhuQuoc Airways airline has put the first "resortless goods" model into operation in Vietnam, connecting Phu Quoc with global tourists.
In the context that Phu Quoc has just become a special zone under An Giang province and was chosen as the venue for the 2027 APEC Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum with about 10,000 - 12,000 delegates, including senior leaders of 21 APEC member economies who are heads or heads of governments of countries such as the US, Russia, China, Japan, etc., the need for aviation connectivity will grow strongly. The presence of Sun PhuQuoc Airways will contribute to completing transport infrastructure and tourism services, bringing practical benefits to the community.
Along with Sun Group investing in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport, the appearance of Sun PhuQuoc Airways is considered an important piece, promoting the seamless tourism - aviation growth model, affirming the island's appeal has just been voted by the US restaurant CNTraveler as the most beautiful island in Asia and the third in the world.
According to Mr. Dang Minh Truong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, Sun PhuQuoc Airways was created to expand travel, resort and discovery opportunities of Phu Quoc for all Vietnamese people and world tourists - with direct flights, reasonable costs, and a seamless experience from the sky to the ground. For Sun Group, aviation is the wing to complete the comprehensive tourism ecosystem, contributing to realizing the aspiration of making Phu Quoc in particular and Vietnam in general a leading destination in the region and the world.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways was officially granted the Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) and the Aviation Training Organization Certificate (ATO) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on September 25, 2025, affirming the airline's comprehensive capabilities in operations, safety and training. Along with that, the airline has received its first three aircraft, the Airbus A321NX and Airbus A321 CEO, out of a total of eight aircraft expected to be operational in 2025. By the end of 2026, the fleet is expected to reach 25 aircraft; and aim for about 30-35 aircraft by 2027.
In parallel with technical work and crew training, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has also completed the operating system, safety procedures, and plan to exploit the "axial - arduous" flight network, placing Phu Quoc as the focus, directly connecting major cities at home and abroad, shortening routes and reducing dependence on shuttle.
On October 15, Sun PhuQuoc Airways officially opened ticket sales and was ready for commercial flights from November 1, with the routes: Phu Quoc - Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc - Hanoi, Phu Quoc - Da Nang, Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang. From December 2025, the airline will continue to expand its flight network with Hanoi - Da Nang and Cam Ranh - Phu Quoc routes, helping to increase connectivity between the "tourism capitals" of the Central region and the pearl islands.
