Thanks to the Union, workers' meals after the storm and flood still have green vegetables
As soon as the storms and floods in mid-October greatly affected their lives, the Trade Union of Vietnam Steel Corporation - JSC promptly supported union members and workers. After the rains, according to information from the grassroots trade unions of the Vietnam Steel Corporation - JSC Trade Union in Thai Nguyen, many workers' housing areas were flooded, some houses were flooded to the roof, food was almost exhausted, especially a lack of green vegetables.
Immediately, the Trade Union officials of the Corporation spread to reputable supermarkets to buy green vegetables. With the sense of responsibility and the efforts of the Trade Union officials, a truck carrying fresh vegetables including sweet cabbage, green cabbage, water spinach, Malabar spinach, and cabbage was transported to Thai Nguyen. Thanks to that, 12 kitchens of the units serving 3,781 workers have vegetables for processing.
The workers' meals contain enough nutritional components with the return of green vegetables. At that time, Mr. Vu Thuong Thu - Chairman of the Trade Union of Thai Nguyen Gang Steel Joint Stock Company - emotionally said: "For a few days now, the workers have not had to eat vegetables. Also as soon as the rain stopped, the Trade Union of Vietnam Steel Corporation - JSC mobilized forces and prepared emergency support including instant noodles, sausages, dry food, bread, milk, drinking water, and green vegetables with a total value of nearly 70 million VND, to the two most severely affected units, Thai Nguyen Steel Corporation and NestreelVina Company Limited. The relief work was implemented quickly and effectively, ensuring goods to reach the hands of workers, demonstrating the spirit of flexible adaptation and quick action of the Steel Industry Trade Union in the context of complex natural disasters.
As one of thousands of union members affected by storms and floods, Ms. Le Thi Kim Thieu, a worker at 29/3 Textile Joint Stock Company (Da Nang) was very moved by the timely support from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. During the rainy and flood days, the water rose, her parents were in the hospital, and her young daughter managed to run to the people's house to take temporary shelter.
At home, floodwaters overflowed the head, killing 8 pigs, many essential items such as refrigerators, washing machines, gas stoves, and steam fans were severely damaged. Receiving a meaningful gift from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ms. Thieu shared: "In times of trouble, receiving such care, I was very touched. This is not only material support but also a comfort for my family to have more determination to overcome difficulties...".
Quick and flexible response
During the rainy and stormy days, officers and workers of Ha Tinh Power Company were always present at the scene, trying to restore power. One of the motivations for electricity workers to carry out their tasks is the attention, encouragement and sharing of the Trade Union, helping them to be firmly at the front line.
According to Chairman of the Trade Union of Ha Tinh Power Company - Pham Thanh Hai, in harsh conditions, the Trade Union officials always accompany and stand side by side with the union members so that they can work with peace of mind. "In difficult times, spirit, will and determination are the most important and we are present to motivate workers" - Mr. Hai said.
In many units, Trade Union groups and female workers proactively go to the market, cook, work shifts, take care of logistics and support colleagues on the scene. Some wade through water up to their chest to bring rice to their brothers; Some prepared medicine, drinking water, medicine at midnight, ensuring health so that their colleagues could continue working firmly. Ms. Le Thi Hong - Head of the Women's Union of the Cam Xuyen Power Management Team said: "After the storm, travel and food shopping will be difficult, and right before the storm, the Union assigned women to prepare food for the first days.
Thanks to that, right after the storm, we were able to cook hot rice, prepare meals to take to the scene to supply the brothers, and stay at the unit to pick up the brothers late, prepare breakfast in time. The union always takes good care of every meal, every bottle of water, helping the brothers ensure their health, and soon bring the power back to the people...
The storm and flood left behind serious consequences. The union members and workers themselves are making efforts to overcome the damage to the unit, and their families and relatives are also facing difficulties due to storms and floods. At that time, the Union was present, promptly encouraged, and shared at both the construction site and the back of each union member. This not only demonstrates the responsibility and flexibility but also the sincerity of the Trade Union organization and each Trade Union officer towards union members and workers.
