On August 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a ceremony to receive the title of Labor Hero to Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Vietnam. Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was awarded the title of Labor Hero for "her great contributions to the foreign affairs sector, contributing to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation".
After nearly 5 years of fighting for peace, she has become the embodiment of the will and aspiration for peace of an entire nation. However, behind that toughness and resilience is a silent but extremely strong source of inspiration, a motivation that has followed her throughout her life and shaped the most important decisions. Through the confidences in the book "Family, friends and the country", that source of love is clearly revealed, it is love.
Family love, the root of a personality
Before being a diplomatic mother, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh was a child, sister, wife and mother. Family love is the first foundation for building a good person. When her mother passed away at the age of 16, she was deeply aware of her responsibility: "Seeing my juniors as young as me, I began to be aware of my responsibility: I have to take care of them instead of me."
That love became the decision to stay in the South during the resistance war against France, despite the opportunity to go to the North to reunite with her single husband. She confided: "Without Khang, I would probably be able to find someone else, but without my brothers, I was afraid that they would have a hard time living. I will never regret this decision."
Her love for her partner Dinh Khang is also a testament to her perseverance and loyalty. Despite being away from him for 9 years in the resistance war against France, she only received a few words from him on a piece of broken paper. However, she still waited. She proudly said: "I am a happy person. I got the person I fell in love with, and that was also my first love."
But perhaps, her greatest concern, her most silent sacrifice is her love for her children. When the country needed it, she had to accept the bids. She firmly admitted: "There is a difficulty that I cannot overcome, but have to sacrifice: It is taking care of my two children". The worry of a mother is always present, especially when having to work far away: "Hearing bombs and bullets falling near where my child lives, I was so worried that I felt so sorry for him." It was those deep and deep feelings that became her inner strength, helping her overcome all difficulties on the foreign front.
From battlefield pain to the desire for peace
When recalling the historic years in Paris, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh's love is no longer limited to her family but has blended with the heartbeat of the whole nation. Her memories always turn to her hometown, where compatriots and comrades are sheding blood. Recalling the moments of watching the 81-day and night battle at Quang Tri ancient citadel, she understood: "The taking of "land" here means regaining freedom and independence for the Fatherland, and they are willing to sacrifice". She and the delegation understood that the spirit had contributed significantly to the struggle at the conference table.
That love is also an extremely worrying thing when the US frantically dropped B-52 bombs on Hanoi and major cities at the end of 1972, She confided: "When we heard the US use B52 to enhance the capital and our major cities, we were really worried." That worry also has a very unique color of a mother when hearing the news of her hometown being bombed: "For me, when I heard the news that the US bombed Hung Yen town, a small town about 30km from Hanoi, I was shocked and worried, not knowing if my children would escape danger? Fortunately, a few days later, domestic comrades informed us that our children were all safe. I breathed a sigh of relief! ".
Perhaps the clearest and most touching manifestation of that great love was her feelings at the moment of signing the Agreement. That is not the pride of a victorious statesman, but the emotion of a Vietnamese child when thinking about the great sacrifices of the nation. She recalled: "Signing the stone to the historic Paris Agreement, I was extremely touched... I am like representing the people and soldiers nationwide... I have nothing to say to express my infinite gratitude to our compatriots and soldiers from the North for accepting all the heroic sacrifices in the fight to get the big victory today". Her greatest happiness is the prospect of people no longer having to die, the country no longer being swallowed by smoke and fire.
Friendship, the strength of international solidarity
The source of love in Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh also spreads widely, connecting peace-loving hearts around the world. In her memoir, she dedicated the most appreciated pages to international friends who have fought side by side with Vietnam. That is the burning affection of the Cuban people, expressed through the immortal words of President Fidel Castro: "For Vietnam, Cuba is ready to sacrifice its whole blood!". That is the special historical attachment to the country of Algerie, where people call Vietnam anh and sister. Or those are Swedish friends who are devoted to Vietnam, like writer Sara lidman, who "reported that Vietnam is a typical example of today's human consciousness, the heart of the human race".
She also never forgets her friends in the anti-war movement in the US. Although it was a bit strange at first, she quickly realized their hearts. She wrote: "I think these are our unforgettable friends, who have truly devoted a precious part of their lives to the heroic struggle for Vietnam". That love and respect helped her build a large world people's front, a "very valuable political capital" that contributed significantly to the final victory.
Looking back on Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh's journey, from the early days of participating in the resistance war to the historic Paris negotiations, people realized that a red thread throughout was love. That love is not just a matter of words, but has turned into action, into responsibility, into the words of a lifetime. It is the root of courage, the source of steadfastness and the light that guides historic decisions.
The image of a small, gentle woman from a land of war has conquered the hearts of friends around the world not only with sharp arguments, but also with deep love for humanity. And perhaps, that is also the greatest legacy that Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh wants to leave for the next generations: The invincible power of love when it is combined with love for family, friends and the country.
