Mr. Huynh The Dieu - Chairman of Tam Quang Fisheries Union said that 16 fishermen belonging to the union departed from the port on May 23 and docked on May 28 after an effective offshore fishing trip. Total catch reached about 45 tons of fish, bringing in revenue of about 1.4 billion VND.
After deducting all fuel costs, logistics and expenses incurred during the sea trip, each fisherman is divided 30 million VND. This is a fairly high income level for marine workers at the present time, helping fishermen to be more excited and assured to continue going offshore and sticking to the sea.
According to Mr. Dieu, in the past time, the fishing trade union has regularly encouraged and supported the spirit of union members, helping fishermen feel secure in working and producing, uniting and supporting each other at sea.
Maintaining fishing teams and trade unions also contributes to improving exploitation efficiency, while enhancing awareness of compliance with regulations when fishing at sea.
Currently, the whole country has developed 120 grassroots fishing trade unions in 18 coastal provinces and cities with nearly 23,000 members and more than 6,000 fishing vessels, mainly operating in offshore fishing grounds.
Fisheries trade unions are not only a support for fishermen in production labor but also contribute to supporting union members to overcome difficulties, maintain livelihoods, and continue to reach out to sea and stick to the sea.
